Cherry Valley is not a road - well, there is a road called that, but it's more than that. It's a geographical area - a valley within a mountainous area.
Check out this NPS link to get a better idea. Best of all, come drive around.

(I don't live there and I'm not connected at all with real estate so it wouldn't affect me at all. I just have always loved the area)

My husband is concerned that there are no restaurants within 20 minutes; we're fine with local fare rather than chains, but like something more upscale than fried mozz sticks..

And he's concerned that he'll have a hard time grocery shopping (he's accustomed to having lots of options within 20 minutes, including warehouse-style).

We're looking for about 2000-2500 sq ft, for about $100/sqft.

I can't find Cherry Valley - is that the name of a town or a community of homes? ? The only Cherry Valley I found for Pennsylvania is far west, is Butler County
There are some places that have more than mozz sticks although with 3 little monsters, we stick to kid friendly type places. I know right in Milford there is the Tom Quick Inn, The Dimmick Inn on the corner of 6 & 209, The Muir House Here is a pretty good list of the local area Discover Pike County PA - Restaurants. No warehouse style shopping anywhere close unless you go up to Middletown, NY to Sams Club or Costco down in Rockaway, NJ. There IS food shopping around here. There is Grand Union right in Milford which is, I think, overpriced. Price Chopper in Matamoras which you can do decent shopping there if you shop the sales the right way BUT they have QUALITY food. I shop @ the local Walmart Supercenter which is the everything in one place place.

I kind of thought the same way about shopping but figured it out after a bit. I like Price Chopper but I usually only shop sales there and find that I can get the same stuff for less @ Walmart. Plus I am a coupon shopper. Walmart doesn't double but their prices are lower than PC to begin with so it just about equals out.

Milford is also a very art oriented type town. They have a lot going on in the nicer weather. Art shows, there are a lot of galleries.

I think you wouldn't be disappointed with the Milford area. Once again, good luck!

Thanks all -

We visited Milford last fall, with our college-aged daughters - and had unch at the Mill Creek-something-or-other. It was charming.

I'm inclined to rent there, and see if my husband can adjust to the 'limited' shopping. If it were me, I'd be happy to not go to as many different stores as he does!

update - my house sold in less than a week... before we even got the listing on line. I was expecting a LONG haul and now it looks like I need to find a place to live... quickly.

So here's my new question - if you live west of the Delaware Water Gap, and your house is NOT part of a lake community, what access to water activities do you have in summer???

You have access to of course the Delaware River Park - which is federal land. Then we have many state parks - Promised Land, Tobyhanna, Gouldsboro, Brady’s lake and others. If you want big lakes for the larger pleasure boats; then try Lake Wallenpaupack or Beltsville.

Everything Fisheye said, plus there's Camelbeach water park and Split Rock H2O. There are community pools in the bigger towns (East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg, for instance, and I'm sure others but I don't know of them)

There are also a gazillion creeks everywhere fopfishing and they aren't privately owned ... PA requires a right-of-way along every body of water in the state.
