:-)

I moved to Dixie, in the 1990s, and it's been grand. Instead of pierogies and Ma's Root beer we have boiled peanuts, pulled pork and sweet tea (southern code for tea infused for only 4 minutes - no bitterness).

The worst thing about NEPA is hopelessness.
There is no expectation of future improvement - only decline and collapse.

The failed social experiment of subsidizing consumption and penalizing the productive is evident in the Rust Belt.

When takers outnumber the taken, it doesn't encourage anyone to hustle, produce and be useful.

Wealth isn't prosperity. Prosperity is the creation, trade, and enjoyment of usable surplus goods and services. Doing more with less, so more can enjoy, is the credo.

When the factories and jobs left, no one sought to remedy their loss. Because those who were taking the "skim" didn't dare upset the status quo.

And when employers hired illegals to avoid paying the inflated costs of socialism and bureaucracy, no one sought to remedy the situation.

Now, you're stuck with the consequences. Generations taught to suck at the public teat, employers crushed with mounting costs, industries destroyed, tax base gone, and invaders with no respect for you, your laws, customs, or language, fill your towns.

Listen up buddy.....I have been banging my head against the wall that is the city of Scranton from everything to clean neighborhoods to safe neighborhoods and protecting what little resources we have left here to draw anyone to the city or area.

The reality is that the city is drowning in its own debt, mismanged resources and an endless tsunami of Nepotism, corruption and the self-serving scumbags that occupy city hall, the county and every other gov't job in between.

Go sell your unicorns and rainbows to someone that hasn't been around the block more times then they can count trying to get the coal crankin inbreds in this city to see that they are the problem, their inability to see past their own nose and look to getting things back on track around here.

I left this area only to return to take care of my family. I buried one parent and continue to take care and be there for the other as well as raise my son in this hell hole of a city.

$350,000,000 in long term debt with an annual debt service payment of over $16,000,000 a year.

Not including the roughly $20,000,000 in lost lawsuits that the taxpayers are going to have to cover because the idiots in city hall continued to fight a fight in court that they KNEW THEY COULD NOT WIN FROM THE BEGINNING....

Your a fool if think that this city is getting better because the mayor and his lackey's put some lipstick on a pig and the Scranton Times (Lynetts/Haggerty's) told you that it is a beauty queen waiting to win a crown.

Every single day the city slides deeper and deeper into a hole that it can not get itself out of.

We have a council full of children and wind bags that just want to hear themselves talk about what they will fix, but nothing can be down, no matter who tells you different.

We lose taxable income in massive amounts to Da U with nothing in return, we lose tax paying citizens everyday that leave the city to get away from the crap that is going on in EVERY neighborhood and they are being replaced by trash, drugs and scum from everywhere looking for cheap housing and a market to push their wares....

You have no idea what I have spent and done to try to get change to happen in this city and for nothing.

You have no idea what I have been through and what I deal with every single time I open mouth for change, threats, hate mail...etc. for over a decade.

I'm here because no matter how hard they push I won't move, I won't run...They hate it and I love it.

A proud thorn in the side of the powers that be in this disgusting place that once was a great city.

Save your dribble for those that have no idea what really goes on in this city, what goes behind the doors, behind the protection of the Scranton Times fluff pieces that are written and designed to lull the stupid sheeple into following any Sheppard that the Scranton Times anoints..

You say that your proud to be born and raised here, really?

Who did you vote for in the last mayoral election?

Any family members working for the city? County?

If your so proud to have been born and raised here then what are you doing to fix things in the city?

Besides hiding behind an anonymous name on a website and giving me grief?

When was the last time you went to a public meeting and voiced your concerns or called your local leaders to ask questions?

I ask you proud Scrantonian......WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO TRY AND FIX THE CITY OR FIGHT FOR CHANGE?

Complaining to your leaders or anyone that will listen creates awareness and that creates a thought process that will lead people to see that things need to be changed.

IGNORING THE OBVIOUS AND PRETENDING THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IS A COWARDS WAY OUT OF THE BACKDOOR TO AVOID HAVING TO DO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT MAKE YOU A TARGET.

I proudly wear my target on my back everyday in this city because I'm NOT AFRAID to open my mouth and stand up for what is right around here.

You my friend and the rest of the SHEEPLE ARE EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CITY, THE NIMBY ILK THAT NEVER OPEN THEIR MOUTHS PUBLICLY AND NEVER DO ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF THEIR OWN BACKYARD TO AFFECT ANY CHANGE AT ALL....

THAT IN A NUTSHELL IS EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS REGION, CITY AND COUNTY
...........

At least I fight to change this place, at least I try to make a better home for my family.....AT LEAST I TRY...

I have actually been to a meeting, thank-you. I have also met the mayor on multiple occasions. I have worked on projects in the city. I have also helped charities in and around the city. I have also talked to politicians, business owners, and lawyers, etc etc. Yes, I know Scranton is in tons of debt. And I obviously don't understand how disappointed you are. But I've read some of your other posts, and you're just straight out negative. Did you even post in the "positive things of NEPA" forum, or were you too busy sulking? And what bang up ideas do YOU have that would make this city so great?

Yeah, what you said I can't agree more whole heartedly. Everyone wants to maintain the status quo but are always complaining silently. An uphill battle but a I like to point out what is wrong. If only to provoke a dialogue.

That said more then you could ever possibly imagine....LOL

The Positive thread was a cry for attention from a poster, thats it.

Negative sure, wait ABSOLUTELY....

The positives and pointing them out will not fix the negatives, making people think beyond what they read in the Times or see in the mountains is what is going to fix this mess....

You can work on charities and every little project in the city.

UNTIL THE MINDSET OF THE SHEEPLE IS CHANGED THERE WILL NEVER BE CHANGE IN THE CITY..

As far as positives go, leave the city head to the endless mountains, that is all the positive anyone would ever need to see in this region.

Your people, the mayors people are the reason that we are where we are.

I want to thank-you for having an honest tongue about your hometown. Also, I'm not even old enough to vote.. So, thanks for blaming me! And there is nothing wrong with focusing on the positives for a bit, and being prideful about what you do have, rather than always looking down on the bad.

There's a good side and a bad side to everywhere. This area is hardly the armpit of hell, there are plenty of worse places. This area is not bad at all aside from political corruption, and name one place where the politicians aren't corrupt...

As the debt load increases and the revenue decreases what then?

There is a point when a ship is taking on water that you have to realize that you cannot save the vessel no matter how hard you want to.

Scranton is at that point right now......

If it was just corruption that wouldn't half bad, but its not. IT CAME WITH AN EXTREMELY HIGH COST TO THE TAXPAYERS.

There is no light at the end of the tunnel, period........

The new answer...."Citizens Police Academy", cut the police to the core and now expect the residents to fill the gap.

UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED TRYING TO STOP A DRUG DEAL...

Keep telling yourselves its not that bad, its ok here and less then 10yrs it will be Camden...

No offense, but if your not old enough to vote then you really have no vested interest in the city and your views of what's good or bad are skewed...

Another 4yrs under Doherty and there will be nothing left at all, not that he really has left anything in the differs for the next guy.....

One man, pushed by one paper and its financial backing have managed to run the city so far into a hole that it will most likely never be able to vet out of it.

Yet he started with a $7,000,000 budget surplus, now its a $6,000,000 budget deficit with over $350,000,000 in long term debt.

The banks are to the point were they will no longer loan money or cover the TAN's...

Bankruptcy is quickly becoming the only option on the table for the residents of the city.

THANK YOU MAYOR DOHERTY AND YOUR FAITHFUL SHEEPLE....

We really lack attractive-looking towns around here. My town was pathetic-looking to begin with, got hit by the flood last September (including my own home), and now looks even worse, with no hope for improvement any time soon. Houses were just abandoned, or now have "For Sale" signs in front of them, and the condemned ones still stand bearing their big orange X's. The streets still have broken glass in them near the vacant homes. Of course Council will always say there is "no money", yet a large grant from the casino $$ went to a private company in town rather than toward trying to improve the appearance of this sad flood-stricken town. (Who in the world made THAT decision??) What a downer that was. It is so depressing. (And yes, I go to council meetings to be involved). On a positive note, Pittston is really trying. The one area of town has gotten a big revamp, and now looks very inviting. Once the ball gets rolling with positive change, morale goes up, and the positive changes continue.
