I agree. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is a mouthful. The 2 cities should just come to an agreement....the Yankees (or whatever they will be called) drop Wilkes-Barre from the name, and the Penguins drop Scranton from the name. In New York, they refer to the SWB team as Scranton anyways, and in Pittsburgh they refer to the Penguins as Wilkes-Barre.

I did hear that they do not plan on bringing back the Red Barons name. I personally think they should avoid any coal references, that's been overdone in this area, and I think we're trying to shed the old coal town image. Someone wrote to the Scranton Times the other day suggesting the name SWB Zombies. I like that, something different that will get people's attention, kind of like Iron Pigs. It would make for some cool merchandise.
I get the thought about leaving behind the whole "coal thing" but, sometimes you can make the past work. Iron Pigs, is a play on pig iron, and steel and the Sands has been a succes.

the name for the Lhigh Valley team was very unpopular at first, but eventually, the name caught on.

Maybe you could call them the Wyoming Valley Drillers. Embrace the future!

It's been so long that I don't recall the particulars, but I believe that at the time of the team's founding, one local writer suggested "Pocono Peaks" -- I think that idea fits better than ever.

It solves the Scranton-vs.-Wilkes-Barre issue, and emphasizes the most progressive, and growing part of this region.

It has no historic or vocational overtones -- won'r start an argument among the geezers and barflies.

It's short, alliteratory (two P's), "catchy", and completely non-controversial.

Although seriously, the name Pocono would make no sense, since the team does not play in the Poconos.
