Not good news at all. But I can't say I blame the guy for leaving city employment.

Is this the same guy who was playing John Wayne in his off-duty hours?

Yep. In a city with rising crime and dwindling finances and a mayor who was hell bent on slashing the police force, having a chief who went above and beyone his duty was a good thing to have.

No, it wasn't. Arresting people off duty, IIRC, was clearly against the rules yet he kept breaking them.

Oh brother. I'm not getting into this argument again. Let's just agree to disagree.

May have been frowned upon by the union, but I was so glad to see an officer care that much about his job/duties. I was hoping he'd be in for the long haul, so here's hoping whoever steps into his shoes can at least do somewhat equivalent to how Duffy was doing.

He was answering calls when he was off-duty, opening the city up for big lawsuits. It was an unsafe and stupid thing to do. While I admire the man's tenacity in protecting his city, he should have followed the rules, IMO.

Doherty told all his crony appointees to jump ship as soon as you can. He will be temporarily replaced by another Doherty leg humper and then a new appointee will be permanently put in place.

This is a clear indication of what coming, all non-union Doherty cronies will be leaving the city in the next few months.

The best thing that we could happen in this city is council continue to drag this out forcing Doherty to call his own bluff and it will expose all the money that disappeared or is hidden.

I say drag it for another 3 or 4 months and make him sweat it hard while the feds are watching...

I'll protect my own home and neighborhood and take my own garbage to landfill if I have to just to see this unfold...

He wasn't answering calls when off duty. But he would apprehend someone if he spotted someone who was wanted or a crime in process. But he wouldn't do the actual arrest, he would call an on duty officer.
