Great idea nobriellen, but anyone who is thinking of buying this very, very, old home needs to have a big bundle of cash to fix it up.
I lived not far from this home. It became a barber shop of sorts by the sister of the past owner. She tried fixing it up but it is like a money pit as this is a large place and so very old.
She claimed she was fixing it up bit, by bit but this was entirely too much of a project for one lady and friends.
You have to imagine most likely the process of new plumbing, wiring, roofing, windows, insulation, etc. Then there is baths, kitchens, walls and walls of improvements to be had.
I'm sure it would go above a hundred thousand improvements. Probably double that.
The history is amazing and I am sure there is more stories out there to be found as yet.

My boyfriend & I stayed here with for a few weeks back in the mid to late 1980's. The women who owned it (her name was Margaret & she had a twin sister Margarita ???) Her twin sister was married and lived in Texas(?) (down south somewhere) Margarita was visiting for the month. Margaret (the owner at the time) had not left the EVI since her husband had passed. It was a bar/restaurant. When her husband passed away (Maybe 8 years or more prior), the employees took advantage of her & were robbing her. She in turn lost her liquor license and tried to keep the restaurant open but they were purchasing food & taking it out the back door. She ended up closing the restaurant as well. She kept income by renting out the small apartments & rooms open upstairs. She had moved all of her belongings downstairs to the restaurant (her bed and things were in the large dinning room). The place was packed (almost to the point of hoarding). I stayed (in her room) and watched over the place for about 2 weeks while she went down south to visit her sister. While she was there we would stay in the kitchen drinking until all hours of the night (she & her sister were drinkers!) I think she was in her 80's at that time. She & her sister were very nice. This was a time in my life when I was drifting. I never kept any contact with her after that.

When she was away, I looked around a bit, I was young & curious. I believe the building had an original "Pony Express Look-Out tower" This was a time in my life when I was drifting. I never kept any contact with her after that.
