We are looking to purchase a vacation home in The Hideout. We plan on using it during the winter and renting it during the summer. Does any one know if there is a demand to rent in The Hideout? Could we use VRBO or a site like that? What are the drawbacks? How much does a 3 bedroom/ 2 bath house located near the main clubhouse get for a weekly rental? Thanks SO much for your help!!

looking at some adds they range from 850-1300 a week or so for a 3 bedroom. but there are pages and pages of rentals listed and its already the season and they are still listed so you have to wonder if they are even actually going for 1500 a month or at all.

At this time of the year you'll save a MINT by buying a Family tent , and setting up in a campground ,, Almost all of them have water , electric and even cable at the sites ,, They even have MODERN and clean restrooms and showers ... Why rent a house for That amount ?

for a week it can be cheaper than taking 8 people away to a hotel to stay. usually you all want to be together and a motel room wont cut it. we used to do it when i was college age.

Also I did hear not great things about the Hideout in recent weeks. This is only what I heard but FYI.

There are over 100 foreclosures in the Hideout at the moment. Many people bought in the boom from NY and then cant pay it back. I also heard that The Hideout has a moratorium on new builds as there are many homes for sale there.

Only what i heard and I wanted to pass it along.

That's not correct, Dororthy. Actually I see a lot of new houses going up, some of them very large.

To the OP. Drop into REMAX while you are there. They do a lot of rental business. One of the issues that you may come across is that people who rent either are year round, or they'll rent for a week at a time in the summer. So, given what you are looking to do, you will need someone to manage the property if you are not going to be there to do move in/move outs and maintenance.

There Might be Lots of New houses going up because its easier to get a Morg on a NEW home then a resale ... There are way more houses empty in there then there are new ones going up ... Lets face it .. The Hideout is Wayne County's PCP.... Aint no good going in there or coming outta there ...

Riverside4ever- do you live in the Hideout? The hideout is not Wayne County's PCP. What would make you say something like that. Hard facts, not something you heard. And don't give examples of things that happened one time. Remember, the Hideout is the size of Honesdale. Of course there are problems, but relatively few. Oh yes, maybe we have alot of people parking in the fire zone or maybe they didn't follow the rules about fireworks or painted their house white, but please don't compare us to PCP.
