Can anyone give me their personal experience opinion of the Howard Gardner School in Scranton whose teaching is based on the MI Theory?

I enrolled my son in HGS, he attended it for the first seven months after we relocated to Scranton. IMHO, it is a farce to call it MI in practice it is a Montessori school and did was not a good placement for my son. I did him a great disservice by sending him there. I removed in March. I did not reach this decision alone, but with the assistance and advice of some indviduals with a much greater education than myself.

He is currently enrolled in Neil Armstrong and is a A+ student. The only thing I miss about HGS is the hands on, real world experts and his studing of Spanish, but we do those things for him now. While his Spanish lessons are not formal, he is well above his peers that come from an English only home.

May I ask specifically what was it about the school that you did not like? Thanks in advance for sharing.

There was no direction, the kids floated around with out instruction in the class rooms (hence montessori, not MI), they were EXTREMELY loud, almost to the point of chaos...it did nothing for him. For a HIGHLY MOTOVIATED SELF STARTER, it maybe a good fit.

While working with NEIU 19 ( and discussions after I took him out) I found that some recent graduates (top ones) entered into high school complettely unprepared and needing much much remeidal (sp?) work.

You are vey welcome. One thing I must add...I was not going to remove him when I did ( it was already March of 08) but in discussing it with some professional educators, they thought his immediate removal was in his best interest. They were correct. I have to tell you Dan warned me and I did not listen to him...I will not make that mistake again!

Now if only the city would take that stance....

Neighbors of mine had many problems with the school and not just academic. They removed two of their children and placed them in Robert Morris here in Scranton and couldn't be happier.
