Hey there, me and a few friends want to goto nyc soon, none of us want to drive in the traffic. There are several ways to get to NYC from NEPA but there seems to be a problem getting home late at night. If we need to we can drive to philly or anywhere really (to take a bus or train from there), we just want to avoid NYC traffic and having to pay for parking and such.

The last time we went we parked at the NJ Transit station in Trenton and took the train in from there. It worked well, there are other stations in Jersey you can do this at but Trenton seemed to be the easiest.

The other way we considered was driving out East on 80 and then getting on the Montclair line which starts in Mount Olive. The problems that made us decide on Trenton were that the Montclair line has twice as many stops literally, 27 or so to 13 or so. Plus, I don't think you'll find good parking at those small locations. Trenton has a big parking lot.

There is no ideal way to drive from NEPA to Trenton and try finding a parking spot at the AMTRAK station in Trenton.

The New Jersey Transit Morristown Train Line ( New Jersey Transit) parallels I-80 starting in Hackettstown. Most of the stations have parking but the lots are always full weekdays. You may be able to park on a side street somewhere or in a pay parking lot and walk to the station. Most trains end at Hoboken but some go right into Penn Station.

Drive to Weehawken NJ and take the Port Imperial Ferry over to Manhattan. The ferry provides free bus service on the NY side. You can check their Web site for all the details.

Bus is the cheapest, train the most comfortable, car the most convenient.

But if you go by train you'll spend an arm and a leg, and depending in how many in your group you will not save anything over tolls and parking in Manhattan. Plus, NJ Transit shuts down really early and you're out of luck if you want to hang out in the city into the wee hours. You can usually get good parking deals in Manhattan if you print out a coupon ahead of time instead of just wandering around looking for a garage.
