Seventy years ago today, December 14, 1942, the keel of the U.S. Navy light cruiser "USS Wilkes-Barre" was laid down at the shipyard in Camden, New Jersey (see USS Wilkes-Barre (CL-103) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). She had a distinguished record in the Pacific Theater during WWII and her hull continues to serve the greater good as an artificial reef.

My friend has a house at Summerland Key, and being certified at 200 ft. he has visited the Wilkes-Barre, resting on the bottom just off Key West. My wife is from Okinawa, and I was surprised about all the time the USS Wilkes Barre spent just off those shores. Small world sometimes.
