Was interested in this post because we too are considering moving to Honesdale. However, we are retired and passed the age of dealing with schools. Because we are "mature" I am a little apprehensive on a move because we don't have the exposure to other people as we did when we had children in school. However, the taxes here in NJ are too high for us to stay. Outside of the low taxes the appeal for us is Main St., and the idea that we can walk into town and not drive.

I am hoping that we don't have problems being accepted and that the winters aren't as long as the last one!

You have Prompton mountain bike trails right off route 6. Prompton is between Honesdale and Waymart. There is also Merli for mountain biking too which is north of Carbondale. Merli kinda has it all. A nice playground for the kids, BBQ, Pavilion, and a nice small lake for swimming. I do most my mountain biking at Merli. Both have competitive single track trails that are well marked and you can download a map of the trails online.

We moved to the Hawley area when I was 13 and never had a problem fitting in and adjusting and neither did my parents. My dad got involved with the Honesdale midget football program and built it from the ground up. People are pretty friendly and welcoming in general.

The winters are pretty cold and the summers are hot, but the fall is absolutely beautiful. A drive down Oswego turnpike to lake Wallenpaupack is a must in the fall. And when you drive to Dickson city for your shopping; it is called going down the line and grocery shopping is getting an order. So when your in dickson city and someone asks where are you heading. You say up the line over the mountain. And a pizza pie is not called a pie, it is called a tray. And a hero is not a hero, it is a hoagie. Route 6 I the line. So if your heading East, that is going up the line and if your heading west, that is down the line. Grocery shopping (order), pizza pie (tray), Hero (hoagie).

If you like perogies, NEPA has some of the best perogies you will ever find. If you like bread, forget it. You will never find a good roll or bagel in NEPA.
