There seem to be a lot of truly horrifying stories in the news lately.

Just want to put this up in case you suffer from TL;DR.

Quote:
Family members expressed concern that if they placed Mr. Gensiak in a personal care facility, the financial support they received from his Social Security benefits would dry up.
Before the end of the interview, investigators said Mr. Gensiak's mother asked if she would still receive her son's Social Security check even though he died.

The scumbags were on WNEP doing a taste test a few months ago, while the victim was starving to death. What is wrong with people?

I don't watch the news because it's so sad, but this story came up on a news brief, and broke my heart. Most of my friends & family are in the field of social services, mental health, and the medical field. Unfortunately, they tell me this is not an isolated case, especially in NEPA. The lack of services, and negligence of mandatory reporters play a big part. It's just too sad. I hope this poor guy can heal from this ordeal, and lead a happy productive life.

That would be quite a feat. The man died, starved and suffering from scabies. That's why the mother and the two daughters were arrested.

I was under the impression that he was severely malnourished, but survived. I only caught the brief, not the whole story. They do arrest people for abuse, not just when someone dies. Nonetheless, it's a sad affair, and he is not the only one. The state agencies need to do a better job of protecting these people.
