Thanks for all the great pictures! Is Glendalough a lake community? Do you know if they allow canoes, sailboats, etc. on the lake? Are all of the homes McMansions or are there some that are being built that are for the meeker amongst us? Sorry about all the questions but you've peeked my interest with your pictures.

To be honest I had never even heard of Glendalough before I drove around aimlessly along the Demunds Road area for this tour. The lake I snapped an image of runs along the roadway as you enter the community. The body of water is smaller than it appears in the photograph though, and I didn't see any signs of people using it for recreation. Nearby Harvey's Lake is the "hub" of the Back Mountain in terms of water recreation. Several weeks ago some friends and I enjoyed a party at my friends' lake house, and from the vantage point of their front porch hot tub we were able to survey jetskis, water-skiers, kayakers, yachters, etc. Harvey's Lake is definitely becoming more "upper-crust" though, as the cheapest lakefront properties will probably start around $300,000. Glendalough is an established community that was only home to relatively-larger homes that I would say would range in price from $275,000-$450,000 or so.

If you wanted an "undiscovered" and pristine lake community in the Back Mountain, I'd gladly recommend Lake Silkworth to you. Homes here are much more reasonably-priced and modest than the ones at Harvey's Lake.

I've noticed the number of views and replies to each successive photo thread plummeting lately to the point where I probably won't even bother taking all of the time, effort, and gasoline to shoot any more. It was worthwhile during the first two or three threads when people seemed interested, but now not even Bamboo is coming on here anymore; the City-Data fad seems to be dying out. That's a shame, considering I've grown more attached to this forum than I have to MySpace!

To answer your question. You should look for towns such as Shavertown, Dallas, Harvey's Lake, Lehman, and Trucksville.
Oh Scranton, Your pictures are grand, wonderful, marvelous........
( I'm singing now ).........I am going to have to post everytime I look at them. Right now, I can't give you more rep as it says I "gave you enough already" LOL.......
If you stop, then no one knows what a "beautiful place we're in" ( Oh my, that was a song too)
I don't always write to say so..........but, the pictures are so informative.
I have been to towns I never thought I'd see........
Visual is so much better then words.....
Thanks, as always, for the wonderful visions of towns, and lakes, homes, and mountians of Pa.
Would you stay then...........

Wow...just making my way over to these photo tours, and some houses in this one are right down the street from where I'm moving! That one house "suburban sophistication" is GORGEOUS "in real life". A family of 20 must live in that house..it's HUGE! That Country Club Shopping Center is where I'll be buying my groceries. I've never been inside though..hope it's a good one!

Anyway, sorry for digging up a thread that hasn't had a post on it since 2007, LOL , but I had to comment. It's really cool of you to put pics up like that

Are you going to do Pittston and Jenkins Township?

Eventually yes. I already have about 50 images of Pittston snapped from last year, but I had to stop when I kept on getting interrupted by people I knew; it's not easy being the mayor-in-training you know! I might hold off on Pittston until its massive downtown overhaul is completed now that the casino money is coming pouring in. The town will look absolutely stunning soon with underground utilities, new sidewalks, shade trees, Victorian-era streetlights, brick crosswalks, etc.
