I have never been to the Santa Parade, but in the case of inclement weather it would be better to watch the televised version of it live on WNEP. It looks like this weekend will be chilly but sunny, so my boyfriend and I are planning on checking it out to get into the Christmas spirit. It's always a pleasure to watch on television, and I've always wanted to attend in person. It is so refreshing to see thousands pour into downtown streets for a parade where every other person isn't staggering around drunk (St. Patrick's Day Parade).

I'd give it a shot for sure. I believe the Northeast Theatre or some other performing arts group presents an annual free performance of the Nutcracker in Scranton as well. That might be worth checking out.

I'm assuming you moved to the Pittston Area, so I'd also see if there is a Christmas jazz band and chorus joint concert going on. Those were always nice when I was at high school there a few years ago.

The Santa parade is a great parade. Much better for the family than the dreaded Scranton St Patty's Day drunkfest, in my opinion. My only complaint is that it is too early....but its held this early so that the mall can kick-off the season of greed and remind us that too many people see this as the true meaning of Christmas : the almighty dollar $$$.

I think they should hold the parade on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
