Nobody passing thru the area would waste their time detouring for any of the things you listed.

I wonder how much time you've spent at any of the places gypsy and I have listed. I can guarantee you that many of the people in attendance are not from here.

to each his own---one can find things to do here and if one has much extra cash may be able to go to the kirby center or casino or arena--but if one wants to join social clubs, etc as a non resident in the last 40 years lots of luck

There are many things on Magritte's and my lists that don't require a large cash outlay. MOF, quite a few of them are free.

Annie, the casino is not my cuppa. I'm notoriously cheap when it comes to throwing my money down a rat hole. I also don't do concerts because I like to HEAR what I paid for. The Kirby does have some interesting shows and I've been to a few, but it isn't something that I attend just because it's there.

As far as "social clubs", I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if there isn't one you want to join, why not start one? I'd be interested to hear just what you have in mind.

We are going to the Kirby Center next Monday to see Elvis Costello. That's the deal I struck with my wife when I agreed to go with her to Hall & Oates back in September at the Sands in Bedlam. In January we are going to see Hair at the State Theatre.

What hobbies in particular? I belong to a few myself.

Looking for:

A photography club? Ask at the camera shop.

A book club? Ask the librarian.

A foodie club? Ask at the store that sells culinary supplies.

Pick up the Weekender/Electric City papers (both free) and look through the up-coming events.
There actually are quite a few that don't involve alcohol.

Check LCCC. They have such a variety of courses that it's possible they have a list of clubs that might interest you.

Without specifics from you, it would be hard to know which direction to send you, but these are a few suggestions that, if they aren't helpful to you, might help someone else.
