Just wait until the murder numbers are factored in for 2013. It should reflect an 800% increase or so. This number alone will do wonders for any future employers thinking of relocating to the area. And by the way, closing or doing something about Sherman Hills will not lower the crime rate. It will in fact make crime prevention more difficult. Studies have proven when a problem location has been neutralized so to speak, the criminals only disperse similar to roaches scrambling when the lights go on and making police patrols that much more difficult. If you're that angry about the lousy way the city is headed, thank a liberal.

Agnes would be a cake walk for the levees compared to Lee and Lee didn't top them. Your chances are pretty good but you never know.
Many insurance companies wont cover acts of god like rivers or lakes flooding your home. Any one have info on insurance companies that do?

It's not covered under a standard policy, you specifically need flood insurance.

Hey!!! ANOTHER homicide. Any cheerleaders here willing to justify this one and sweep it under the rug so they can convince people looking to relocate to the area what a "good idea" it is??? LOL....

No one here is trying to convince anyone of anything Trips. if you are afraid, stay the heck out we don't want ya. Why are you so obsessed with Wilkes Barre anyway? Just trying to make yourself feel better about your own craphole?

I just get tired of jerkoffs like you coming in here and calling the area a complete slum when anyone who lives here knows what the area is really like. I'm not gonna cheerlead I'm just gonna say if you are just here to heckle stay the heck out and go stare at the young folk walking by in the Steamtown Mall since you like it there so much.

Having a hard time seeing how that area is so "crime ridden". Here's some statistics from Wilkes-Barre Demographics & Statistics

Wilkes-Barre Crime Rate and Statistics
National Average = 100%
W-B Total Crime Risk = 75%

Personal Crime Risk = 78%
Murder Risk = 89%
Rape Risk = 66%
Robbery Risk = 91%
Assault Risk = 83%
Property Crime Risk = 86%
Burglary Risk = 78%
Larceny Risk = 117%
Automotive Theft Risk = 50%

According to these stats, every crime rate except larceny is below the national average. So exactly what's the issue with that?? Seems pretty ok to me.

Gee Chefkey, you hurt my feelings....I guess your post could be considered a "personal attack" but I got big boy knickers on and enjoy a little tussle now and then. (one cry baby asked TBT to actually come to his rescue when he attacked me and I showed him the errors of his ways.) But back on topic, this is the Wilkes Barre thread and I just commented on a current event. And in my opinion, the regulars here fail to give people a balanced view of the area and how it's deteriorating when they ask questions about relocating to the area. I think I'm do a "public service" if you will. I do however have sympathy for you. Must really be frustrating to watch the crime rate go up as your property value gets flushed like a turd. Also, I've never been to the Steamtown Mall or will ever get there. I forgive you for your confusion.

Now compare it to 30 or 40 years ago, especially the murder rate.
