There is a plenty of natural gas coming from the new wells in NE Pa. Is there any plan to lay pipelines into Poconos or anywhere else in NE Pa? With electricity rates going up again next year, a low cost alternative would be a great news for homeowners.

The main distributor of nat gas in NEPA is UGI. Their latest annual report claims that they connected 15,000 new residential natural gas customers and 1900 new commercial and industrial nat gas customers in their service territory in 2013. These customers were located along existing gas lines.

UGI appears to be more interested in acquiring existing propane distributors in the US and worldwide than extending their nat gas distribution system. They are also getting into "gas gathering" in a big way in the Marcellus shale areas.

You might want to call a propane/natural gas supplier in Mt. Pocono? They recently ran natural gas lines down to Sanofi. Perhaps it is available other places?

Natural gas will be making it's way into places that have a concentration of homes and that doesn't mean along one road. Coal is your low cost alternative if you don't have natural gas.

This gets to one thing that ticks me off about our wonderful new gas economy in PA. How come we see no real movement on expanding nat gas distribution in eastern PA? It steams me to see oil deliveries to row homes, and hearing about state incentives only for transportation fueling on the demand side - doing nothing for the tens of thousands of homes in built-up areas with no access to a gas main.

Pipelines are expensive, they aren't going to put pipes into places that aren't going to be profitable. Then when they do want to do it the next thing is they have 6 gazillion people suing them to stop it.

everyone wants cheaper fuel but the tree huggers don't want it in their back yard, can't have it both ways

We heated with coal the whole time we lived in Pike County, had a Riteway Model 37, it sure wasn't pretty but it heated a 3 story house without a blower. I bet that unit has been legislated out of existence, I stopped at a stove shop in Stanhope, NJ sometime back and he had a brand new one sitting in the showroom. I asked him "how much?" Shop owner told me he couldn't sell it, wasn't emission friendly in NJ. I guess it will make a great boat anchor.
