We showed our house today to a couple from Bergen County New Jersey....for those that do not know...big, big bucks. They told us their taxes are off the charts and that many folks from NJ are heading towards NEPA. Apparently, the state of NJ is doing reassessment on houses and it forcing many to the mountains.

Send them my way, will ya? I want more Jersey folks to consider the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area instead of taking one look at us, saying "icky", and then retreating back to Pike/Monroe Counties.

We are the only full timers in this part of our development, and I think 5 out of 6 of our part time neighbors are from NJ. We seriously considered moving there with husband's job out there but it's just not worth it. My sisters taxes in NY are....are you sitting down?.....$24k a year!!!(give or take a few pennies lol)

Owie...Owie...that's why we left NJ. Taxes this, lake fees that...it was just getting ridiculous for what we owned and NJ is so darned corrupt and underhanded that it's pathetic and they gov't is making the people pay by taxing everyone.

There - 80x100 lot, 1000 sq ft single level ranch $4700 taxes $995 lake community dues...garbage pick up(we paid 10 mos out of the year/lake paid 2). I do give credit to the lake association...those lakes were pristine and very well kept. My daughter had free swim lessons for 2 summers, loved it and did great.

Here - 4.06 acres, 3200 sq ft 3 sty log home $4700 taxes no lake dues...garbage we pay. We border 2 creeks...1 w/a swimming hole.

BIG difference.
