Hello everyone. I live in the Poconos in Pike. I want to move down to Carbon to be within a decent time frame of Bethlehem for medical reasons and lots of docs there. Less than an hour. Lehigh and Northampton are too expensive. Berks is also a consideration.

Also, we are horse owners and there arent any barns up here and its short on all things equestrian. We have young kids so good schools is a must. Low crime. We are fine with rural and dont care about night life. We like our bear, deer and snow lol. We live in a town of 1,000 right now. Although I would like to be within 15 minutes of a few stores, if possible. And kids activities like gymnastics and dance and football. Our budget is about 400,000. Possibly more if there is house with more acreage and can get the clean and green program. Id like a minimum of 2 acres in case I need my horse on my property. More if possible. But a local barn near my home is optimal for now.We are older with a pension so employment and commuting is not an issue. Conservative and Catholic.

What towns fit the bill or a top 3 or 5?

Have you checked out that stretch between Mt. Bethel and Wind Gap on Rt 512? I don't know if any properties are for sale or would fit your expectations? But it would be a lot quicker commute than Pike County. There is some farming in that area and maybe you could find what you need? I am also sure that you might not have any problems with your hunt for conservative and Catholic with little towns like Roseta (which really is not on Rt 512, but a little north of there).

If you can find something nearby, Weatherly (pop 2500) is a gem. The town was the birthplace of Eurana Schwab (1859-1939 nee' Dinkey), wife of steel magnate Charles M. Schwab (1862-1939). In the first years of the 20th Century, the Schwabs were very generous to the community, bestowing upon it a high school and large community park. Both have survived until the present day, although the school (no longer used) has turned into somewhat of a "white elephant" and several proposals to rehabilitate it have fallen through. The town has a small Roman Catholic parish, and the ambience is that of a trip back in time.

Bethlehem would still be a 35-mile haul, however, but not so taxing if your destination is Whitehall, Catasauqua, or Northampton.

Thanks everyone! I noticed right over the border into Northampton there are some nice houses with 3 to 4 acres. Its Moore Township and Lehigh Township. But also says Bath and Danielsville. How are these areas?

When I was young I always thought of Bath as needing a bath. That was because of the cement plant and everything looked grey. I suppose that it is long gone or cleaned up; but I have not been down that way for many years.

I tried inserting an image showing the distance from Danielsville to Allentown but this system won't allow it for some reason....but its only a 30 minute drive to Allentown, Northampton, and Bethlehem give or take 5 minutes to the last 2....
