I was there, I get the same feeling as fisheye, ALTHOUGH, there was virtually no negative feedback in the room of nearly 250, which is a big change.

Thanks. The 'no negative feedback' bothers me. Rail service is not simple to our area. There are many insurmountable problems.

For one thing; I don't think we can separate rail service and I-80 (interstate) expansion - especially through the Water Gap. The old viaduct bridge, four miles into New Jersey on Route I-80, is one key component. It was built in 1929 and is slowly crumbling. It is also a massive structure and will be very difficult to replace. At the same time it restricts lane widening/expansion of I-80 (it is just too narrow under it's piers). Right now it's shoulders are marked at a height well below the 13'6" that are needed for commercial trucking.

One other point, about linking rail and Interstate together: Both are in a flood plane or close to the flood plane. The existing rail tracks were under water three times in one year. Our new PA Interstate rest area/welcome center was underwater at the same time. We talk about five hundred year floods like they will never happen and they are happening more frequently than the experts predicted - certainly no five hundred years apart. So is it wise to spend millions/billions rebuilding in an area that might get washed away? I do know that I-80 was not underwater during those floods; but the water level came very close to shutting down the Interstate.

Emanate Domain and NIMBY's (not in my back yard) are a major problem. Try altering the location of the tracks or road and we run into those issues. Fifteen years ago Tennessee was making great strides with their new interstate bypass for I-40 when these issues shut them down. The construction of I-440 was halted or permanently stopped northwest of Nashville. Lawyers crawled out of the woodwork on issues like these.

Then we have environmental issues like these: Could Network Rail be breaching law by cutting down trees? | Tom Clarke on Science | Tom Clarke on Science. Recently bats have stalled railroad construction - we cannot disturb our wildlife. Here is one other link: https://www.tapinto.net/towns/sparta...r-train-plan-1. All wetland regulations have become even more difficult in just the last few months. According to my sister, in township planning, the paperwork has more than doubled in just the last few months. Of course lawyers love these issues.

Then we need cooperation between all parties. This is not just a NJ or PA issue. We need the Bridge Commission, Feds, EPA, railroad and everybody else on the same page. Cooperation can be very difficult when many have their own agenda. President Eisenhower was the last, great, team leader and he has been dead for many years. Perhaps his Interstate plan would not even work with today's regulations?

For some reason the Pocono Record thinks Matt Cartwright is a Republican. Both articles incorrectly state his party affiliation.

Thanks and I did not even get into how many people will use rail service if it has to stop at every single town!

By the way; that Pocono Record keeps trying to get me to subscribe. They gave up on "local news" and they want me to subscribe to something I get for free! Plus the internet has better coverage of local issues than our newspaper. When they first came out with their 'free' forum, many years ago, I loved the Pocono Record. Then we could toss in our two cents on any of their articles and sometimes walked away with a totally different perspective. Now we are lucky if we get one or two local news stories each day + they have their own spin to the news (instead of just reporting the facts). I am just waiting for the paper to die and be replaced by a 'real' newspaper. They have to be loosing money.

Can you provide some tips on sites you prefer?

I've seen these for further north.

WNEP: WNEP.com | News, Weather & Sports from WNEP-TV — Proud to Serve Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. If you click on the news tab at the top you can then go 'county by county' and that will give you almost the same coverage of local news as our Pocono Record gives us.

WFMZ: WFMZ | Allentown, PA News, Lehigh Valley, Eastern Pennsylvania News, Weather, Sports | 69 News. You can do the same on their news and click on Monroe County. It is not always the newest news; but their reporting is much better.

Then, of course, we have BRCTV13: BRCTV13. Of course their written news is sometimes days behind - I guess they type slow? What is that comedian with yesterday's news today?

If there was ever a nuclear attack we would all be history before we ever read it. On the other hand we could always claim that ignorance is bliss!
