When my kids were growing up we spent many summers in Honesdale, in a cottage on Bunnells Pond. I'm now looking for a similar cottage in the area where I can spend a couple of weeks this summer.

Are any of you familiar with Pine Grove Cottages or Tuscarora Lodge in Beach Lake? Know anyone who's stayed there, or know the owners?

I'm looking for a quiet, detached cottage in a natural setting, just for one person. Not interested in resort activities, as I will mostly be using it as a writing retreat and to catch up with friends living in the area. I'd like to stay in the general area of Honesdale rather than Wallenpaupack, Lake Ariel, etc. Hawley would be okay, though.

I see quite a few campgrounds, but am not interested in a camping environment.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for responding, Riverside. The Keen Lake cottages have a great reputation. I know the property has been run by the same family for generations and it was actually the first one I looked at.

It looks like they have many planned activities and events, might be a little too bustling for me? Not sure. The lodge is attached housing; a cottage has a more secluded atmosphere and is my first preference.

A few of the cottages are in very private area's .. You should have peace and quiet as they say that... Hope you find what your looking for ..

The lodge has small units and from what I see and have seen over there its very quiet ..

I'm familiar with Pine Grove. It's a simple family oriented place. Reminds me of a place in the 60s. In a good way.

The owners are very nice and welcoming.

Warren, I called Pine Grove yesterday and talked to one of the new owners for a while. Nice and welcoming, as you say. The place has changed hands a couple of times, and apparently the last owner didn't keep it very long. A husband and wife bought it about two years ago, and have been spending money, fixing it up.

I ended up booking a cottage with them for a week in August. Now I can't believe I have to wait another four months to go. I'm so homesick for NEPA, I can't stand it!

The place where I used to stay, Bunnell's Pond, has new owners and they don't rent out their cottages at all. When I come to the area, I always drive by and look at the cottage where I used to stay. I'm so glad my kids had those beautiful PA summers to look back on. I used to let them go out on their own, picking berries, playing in the barn, fishing, visiting the old man next door and his beautiful wildflower gardens, petting the sheep.
