I've just recently learned about finalized plans for the long-vacant Connell Building (which was featured in my Center City photo tour), so I thought I'd share them with you to let you see even more of the Electric City's rebound.

http://www.precisionrg.com/assets/images/photo-connell.jpg (broken link)

This eight-story building, once restored, will house ground level boutique retail shops, class-A office space on the second and third floors, and then luxury condominiums on floors 4-8. The 52 residential units will range between 900 and 1,400 square feet. Three new upscale stores are planned on the ground level, and a parking garage is also a possibility.

Oooh hoo hoo, a little NY/NJ bashing. Ouch I love everything already. I used to be so afraid to travel, but in these last couple of years with every day that goes by, the sun that sets on my same old day is setting on so many exciting places I have never even dreamed of going. Talking to everyone has really inspired me. I feel the welcome attitude and the friendliness from everyone thousands of miles away and it just makes my heart fill up with excitement. Bless this silly computer that sits on my desk and gives me the opprotunity to learn so much and meet so many great people.

If ... I mean when... I come out to atleast visit I think everybody on the board should get together for a dinner somewhere. Maybe Paul could make a presentation for us. Scrantonisity for life.

Sara

I'll try to snap those photos of Nay Aug Park for you tomorrow between school and work. They're calling for some snow, and since the park lies at the very peak of the Hill Section, I'm not sure if my little Contour would be able to handle it! If the roads are decent, I should be up there snapping away!

Hyde Park is a relatively-quiet, affordable, working-class part of the city's West Side. You would be advised to get a car if this neighborhood appealed to you. While there is a rebounding little downtown stretch along North Main Avenue in West Side with restaurants, shops, and services, there's still not enough in West Scranton alone to meet all of your needs within walking distance. I suppose if you were truly adventurous, you could get by without a car by making the hike to Center City, (probably about a mile from the Hyde Park area), but that's only if you're up for some lengthy foot travel. This part of the city isn't as "quaint" as the Hill Section or Green Ridge with their tree-lined streets and historic homes, but the homes in Hyde Park are still generally very well-kept, albeit smaller and with less character. Homes are generally priced from $75,000-$125,000, as you'll see below. Hyde Park is very grid-shaped, and is bounded roughly by Luzerne Street to the south, North Main Avenue to the east, Keyser Avenue, to the west, and Dorothy Street to the north. Some notable locations here include the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, Charles Sumner Elementary School, John Marshall Elementary School, St. Patrick's Elementary School, and Lincoln-Jackson Elementary School, along with West Scranton High School and West Scranton Intermediate School, both of which are located just across Luzerne Street from the rough borders of Hyde Park.

ConorsDad, who lives very near (or possibly in) Hyde Park in West Side, could probably give you a bit more in-depth information, as I'm going by the perspective of a suburbanite who truly doesn't live in this neighborhood 24/7 as he does.

Default Travel

Here's some Scranton questions....

If you wanted to go to NYC do you drive your car? Is there anywhere you can even park if say you wanted to do some touristy things then maybe find some delicious food? What about travel to Philly?

Do any of those beautiful homes in the hill section have anywhere to park your car? Mostly street parking? I know they are quite close together neighbor to neighbor, but what about the back yard? Is there a smaller one.. maybe hardly any at all?

Does anyone want to volunteer their total on an average heating bill? Don't be afraid... our cooling bills here in the desert are pretty nasty.

I've really grown fond of everybody here on the board. Thanks for your endless well wishes and information

Sara

Ooh, thought of one more.

Where would be a great/affordable place to stay in Scranton to check out the town and also tour around to some of the sights? You know, the East Coast essentials....the sign from the Office, The Liberty Bell, Conan OBrian. The stuff you need to see before you die.

Thanks!!

Our family travels by car, the ride to NY is OK if you don't hit traffic, but there is a bus company in Scranton that has buses going into Manhattan everyday. The ride to Philly is pleasant, on the Pa. turnpike, no traffic ever, and it takes you right there, about a 1 1/2 hr ride.
Heating bill...I have a 1600 sq ft home, my entire house is electric, and in the summer we run 4 window A/C units all summer long because we just like a nice cool house in the summer, and our total bill for the year is $2,500. Thats heat, electric with 2 teenage girls and all their 'accessories' and the AC all summer, plus my husband decorates for Christmas like Clark Griswald.
