We are considering purchasing a lakefront home as a vacation home. We have looked into the Hideout but don't want to overlook any other possible communities before taking the plunge.

I know very little about Masthope. Does anyone know if they permit power boats on the lake?

Aside from that: Can anyone chime in as to pro and/or cons about either or both communities?

Masthope. We ski there in the winter and it seems so much nicer than the Hideout. Have a look at WLE.

I don't know much about Masthope except that it's right on the NY border.

We have a house in the Hideout and enjoy the neighborhood very much. Lots of amenities and a couple large lakes and a few ponds are in the neighborhood. We are more into the mountain region of the Poconos with higher elevations. The Hideout is very pro-active with Security and with the upkeep of all the amenities. They are very good with snow removal in the winter throughout the neighborhood. It seems like a good mix of neighbors that take pride in their houses and area which I appreciate. We are also about 5-8 miles from Lake Wallenpaupack. Because we're further into PA, we're about 25 minutes from the Scranton area where there is shopping and restaurants galore.
Good luck in your decision.

Masthope does allow power boats 18ft and under on the lake, it's a very nice community, my wife and I sold our home there two years ago because we were planning on moving down south, those plans have changed and I am considering buying there again. Masthope is very family orientated, it can get some what busy on the weekends but nothing crazy, during the week it's usually very quiet in the community and a great place to get away and relax.

The minor negatives I can mention are it's pretty remote out there, takes about 20 minutes to drive into Honesdale on some very winding back roads that aren't in great shape and cell phone service was terrible, I think Verizon worked somewhat, Sprint service was none existant.
