My fiancee and I are both from NEPA. We both graduated from Abington Heights.

We moved to Virginia two years ago because she got hired as a 4th grade teacher. While down here, Fairfax County Public Schools paid for me to go back to get my master's in Special Ed.

We plan on moving back to the area once I graduate with my masters. We want to build a house, and be closer to our family. We can't afford to buy or build down in VA.

How hard will it be for her, who will have 3 years of teaching experience in the 10th biggest school district in the US, to get a teaching job when we move back.

I will have 2 years of special ed experience. How hard will it be for me?

Thanks in advance.

There are plenty of threads on this topic to look back at. Usually it's pretty hard getting a job here, but since you graduated here maybe it will help, and if you have any connections that makes a huge difference. It's all who you know... good luck

Unfortunately in this area, its WHO you know, not WHAT you know. NEPA puts the NEP in NEPotism.

Your best bet would be the fast growing districts in the Poconos....Pocono Mountain, Delaware Valley, Wallenpaupack, etc.

It's really terrible how they play the good ole' boy network around here.

I plan on applying to Delaware Valley around this time next year. I really want to get possibly hired early so I know I have a definite job before I give up the one I have.

Thank you for the replies.

This is so true. I graduated from North west in shickshinny, pa... does anyone know my little town.. hehe Well acutally i am more living in Hunington mills/ hunlock creek ares, but my address is shickshinny.

anyways, they hire those who have connections, its all about connections in my neck of the woods. lOOK AT THE SCHOOL! they finally stopped hirining people with the same last names.. i mean alot of people who work there are family of someone or another.

i would stay in va

i am moving to the tidewater area in august due to the job market here for psychology.

And the worst part of them hiring people with connetions is that many times they are by far not the most qualified of teachers.

Really can't afford to stay in VA.

It was a great place to get a start, but paying 1700 dollars a month for a 1,000 SQF apartment is insanely crazy.

My dad's mortgage in Clarks Summit isn't 2/3rds of that.

We do have some connections as it turns out. My brother's friends mom is on a school board in Dunmore and my fiance's friend has friend on the Mid Valley School board.

It'll all work itself out.
