My sister would drive down to the one off 33 on route 248. But she drove 25 miles to get there. I had bugged the Giant Market chain to take a hard look at our area - I do not know if that helped? But, at that time, I was working out of Carlisle where their main office was located. So it was easy to stop in from time to time and push them in the right direction.

I do not know where Wegman's main office is located? But it would be easy enough to find out. If they have any way to contact them it would not hurt to encourage them to considering our area. The more competition the better.

One follow up: Here is one link to the Wegams Corporate Offices: Wegmans Corporate Office - Corporate Offices & Headquarters. They list their phone number as 585-328-2550. All we have to do is call and ask if they have ever considered our area? Or you can email them or visit their website.

Of course there could be a chance that we would not get a straight answer if they were currently negotiating. But, nothing ventured; nothing gained. Make sure to tell them how you love their stores but cannot waste the time traveling and would really like to see a local store where you would be a regular customer.

The move is iminent the bon ton chain is going out...Many of their locations are closing their doors because of poor sales...
The ShopRite would be a shot in the arm there for the smaller struggling stores that currently occupy the mall ... these small business owners would greatly benefit having another 30,000 + customers coming to that building on a weekly basis...in a near 90,000 square foot location a updated version would be a refreshing site

I was under the assumption that Wegman's was going into the Gateway Center Mall in Smithfield (East Stroudsburg).

Although I don't know if the average gross household income and overall area population would be high enough for Wegman's to actually have any interest in being there. But they could do really well there with all the Martz commuters on weekdays, ESU, and all of the out of state weekenders in the area. Could be a big draw with it's proximity to i80 also.

It is a little tiring having to drive 45 minutes all the way to Wilson (Easton) to get fresher, higher quality, and less expensive groceries. The prices at Weis are pretty outrageous, and even the Wal-Mart Supercenter seems to have adjusted their prices for inflation to accommodate all of their new millennial employees. Wegman's is currently the best value.

Default It's Happening! ShopRite Moving to Stroud Mall (At Last)

Anyone know anything more? Reaction?...
Forgive the revival of this 2½-year-old thread but there's pertinent news!

The move is expected by Thanksgiving... it's just T-Day 2019 instead of 2017.

Thank you for the update. They talk about 150 new jobs; are they considering those jobs on top of the ones that will be moved from the old location. It sounds as if they are planning to close the old store, they state in the article: "we kind of outgrew that store".

The Bon-Ton location is a lot larger than the old store. I just hope that JC Penny holds on. The old Sears location I think might be a hard one to lease because of the setup; but time will tell.

I'll add to the Wegman's wish for that old Mosier farm, Smithfield gateway development. Hoping and praying. Anyway, as for the Shoprite at Stroud Mall. That is happening. I happened to find that on the news over the summer. https://wnep.com/2019/06/24/shoprite...t-stroud-mall/ However, is the 3rd street location going to close? Not sure about that.

I'll add that the Giant is nearing completion in Eastburg at the old KMart location, and that Home Goods in the same plaza is scheduled to open in a few days. Looks like the Giant will also have a gas station where you can redeem your shopping points for discounts!

I've heard that Wegmans won't come to Monroe County because there are not enough full time residents who can afford to shop there.

Yes!! More options. Like the Giant supermarkets. I live in Tamiment and if I happen to be in the area, I do shop at the one in Bartonsville. My go to supermarkets are Shoprite and Price Choppers. I'll do Foodtown in a pinch. Yes, it's a lot of driving for groceries. Heck, I drive anyway so why not. They are putting up those 2 stores in that plaza real quick. 2 gas stations in that same plaza? Interesting.

I heard the same reasoning for the Wegman's not coming to this area. We can only dream.

Yes, the 3rd Street ShopRite is permanently closing. Two locations will not be open simultaneously. The 3rd St store will close at night and Stroud Mall store open the following morning. First weekend in November.
