Dad didn't like big cities, so I went to NY with my (much older) brother or mom.

One day you're walking around in the woods and there's not a soul in sight, and the next, you're on the boat to Liberty Island. I got to go up to the crown of the statue when I was a kid. The torch had been closed for a while.

I was talking about that with mom one day, and she told me that she'd never been there. What? She had sailed into NY harbour in the '40s as an immigrant. Martz to the rescue. I booked the Liberty Island, Ellis Island, South Street Seaport excursion. You can't buy that sort of service in some places.

boy, me to, or Washington DC...we're so close to everyone...and everything, or upstate NY, or PA...so beautiful, miles and miles of forests.

You should do it again, they do some outstanding tours, even a haunted house tour, and over Halloween, they do a real big scary tour at Eastern State Penitentiary.

so much fun to visit...Philly has now copied NYC, on wonderful places to eat, with all kinds of ethnic foods and restaurants.

yes, indeedy, we did it for a school trip, however, I don't believe schools teach nearly as much history as when we were there....

I bet she enjoyed that...do you remember the book with a list of all the immigrants who came in and signed it? Or am I dreaming that? It was so long ago.

We're so close to everything, here in PA, so many wonderful sights, Grand Canyon, PA, the Virginias, Carolinas, the Beach, Museums, Poconos, theaters, my Gosh, we're so fortunate.

One word of warning about our Achilles' heel here in NEPA: Forest fires. We have not had good, soaking, rain for sometime. We are not listed in a draught area as of right now. But our leaves are starting to fall and are providing plenty of fuel and the long range forecast is not predicting any relief soon.

If you go back in time 60, 70 or more year; our area frequently suffered from many major forest fires. Yes; we have better equipment today; but that does not mean that it could not happen. It isn't only that; but the areas that burned off years ago now have major housing developments. I am not trying to scare anybody; just keep in mind that what happens out West; could also happen here with the right conditions. Refrain form burning outside or be careful smoking as we continue to dry out. I try to keep all of our leaves picked up as a buffer against brush/leaf fires. That saved me one time from a neighbor that threw his cigarette in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It is all over out West: https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/western-wildfires. Years ago some would blame the railroads and some would blame the huckleberry pickers. The railroads were blamed because of sparks coming off the steel wheels and the berry pickers were blamed because some felt the fires were intentional started to clear the underbrush and fertilize the blueberries.

I just remember seeing large fires; especially by the Camelback State lands. Strong dry winds and falling leaves could be a nightmare for our area.

We are both reped out for a little while! Thank you!

How did mr. magoo fair in Puerto Rico from Maria? They are showing before and after night pictures and not to many have power.
