An ATV park would be OK as long as it is out in the sticks and away from residential neighborhoods.

The proposed area is behind Warhorse in Dunmore I think...Its well away from any homes and is sandwiched between the Casey Highway, 380/81 and Marshwood road. Its a great location with miles of roads and trails all over the backside of Moosic Mountain.

That area is great if you go further up the mountain behind the holiday inn there is an old tunnel from the gravity rail line and many old structure foundations from the mining days. I think the tunnel is 836 ft long with a slight curve...You can get a jeep thru it and quads are no problem unless the water at the far end is deep.

there is also another tunnel that goes underneath that portion of tigue st a little ways down from warhorse, that if you followed alongside the railroad track you could eventually end up on the other side of montage mountain. interesting, huh? could make additional acreage and development a possibility.

Is that the old Erie line? Might make a nice addtion to the trolley tour as well if they can secure the right-of-way and get some wire run out that far.

I'd love to see the trolley eventually be able to make runs to Nay Aug, maybe they could do saturday picnics or something to that effect. ECTM got a little over 200k earlier this year, and one of the motormen seemed to think a good chunk of that money would go toward running track and power through the proposed 'super terminal' on Lackawanna Ave. The good thing about the terminal is that once they have their place secured, they could potentially venture further into the city at some point in the future. If they are able to work out a route right through the U campus, they might even get a little financial support.

Why they did not extend the track at the stadium end to pass along the top of the out field wall, so that people attending the game can actually SEE the trolley arrive, is beyond me. It's right there! It's free advertisement! Especially with the whole subway theme of the yankees, to not do it is a real shame.

No, luna, the "shame" is that the baseball stadium was built out in the suburbs in the late-1980s when it should have been built very near to Downtown Scranton to help show off our city. My favorite major-league ball parks are those that offer great city skyline views from the seats (PNC Park in Pittsburgh comes to mind), and it would be great to encourage Yankees fans to also shop, dine, and play in Downtown Scranton before and after the games. If everything that was built upon Montage Mountain (save of course for Sno Mountain) was built in and around Downtown Scranton, your city would be 100% revitalized. Just think of what's up there---restaurants, outlet stores, MetLife, Prudential, CIGNA, Bank of America, hotels, the stadium, luxury McMansions and townhomes, etc. The Southern Union building could have easily housed a few of those major commercial ventures on the mountain. There is plenty of room for a baseball stadium in the city proper as well.

Hell, you know you elected a bunch of idiots into office when they decide to invest in a visitors' center in the 'burbs too.

Don't you have to cross a bridge at some point? Its been a while since I was down there. The tunnel on Moosic mountain is nice because its a loop, you can come up from the Holiday INN and then thru the tunnel and around the backside of Moosic Mountain almost to 247 then follow it back down to 435 or the Holiday Inn by at least 3 different routes. Hell you can get to Salem rd without crossing anything but 247 once from Dumore on the top of the mountain.

The old gravity line doesn't have tracks and the trail is clear and smooth for the most part.

Default re

Scranbarre, I think you already know my viewpoint on this subject. Think of the economic and social impact of having a new stadium right in the Pinebrook section of Scranton. The downtown will never be what it once was, especially with the 'big 3' creating an economic vacuum; the steamtown mall, the viewmont mall, and now the shoppes. Think of all the tax revenue Scranton is losing as well!

The Visitor's Center? You mean the daycare center, right? What a waste of a beautiful building.
