Thanks for the information! We sill will not know for sure until the new millage is released in January. So it is too early to know if we have legitimate complaints without see the actual change.

Saw last night on BRCTV news that the county is getting fewer calls about this than they expected right now. Commissioner Moyer was on the Gary in the Morning show the other day, and the advice was that if the Tyler people put your property down as having 5 bedrooms when you only have 3, or an in-ground pool or finished basement when you don't have them, then you should get that corrected. I'd go with sooner rather than later.

The process is revenue neutral overall, so rest assured that if your bill goes up by $1,000 someone else's bill went down by $1,000 or 5 people's bills went down by $200 each, etc. In other words you still have to be vigilant about what they think your property is worth.

How do we find out what Tyler said our house has? I would presume the County can answer those questions? I have a raised ranch and the basement area is not counted as living space. The upstairs only has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It has a large family room with a formal living room and dinning room on the other side - it's a long house.

That said, the one conversation that I had with the office, left me with the feeling that we would not know anything until the new rates we released in January. Perhaps I should give them another call?

A call can't hurt. It sounded like they were disappointed in the low number of calls. Keep them from getting lonely!

The 2019 Monroe County Tax ReAssessment resulted in a tax increase for most people. Property values were assessed and Mill Rates were changed. Generally, property assessments used for calculation of property taxes increased approximately 7 times from the figures used since 1989. The Mill Rate changed from approximately 173 to 25, an 11 fold decrease. You can add up all the Mill Rates for Municipal and School taxes, multiply by the property value and divide by 1000 to calculate your property tax.
