I have to say again that Saw Creek is getting a bad rep for NOTHING!!! It's still a very nice place to live.

Effort in general is great...off the beaten path, but not far from the town of Brodheadsville. Winter Hill is a good neighborhood. Its considered a community by name, but has no dues or restrictions. Its peaceful and lots of great houses/people. Good luck!
I agree.......also there are some lower elevations of Effort that are good.

Default Moving to the Poconos, need help choosing

We moved to the Lords Valley area a little while ago. Wallenpaupack school dist. has an awsome reputation and that is what we wanted for our children. There are plenty of outdoor activities here all year long if you like that. Promised land state park is nearby and Lake Wallenpaupack. The people are ver welcoming. As far as safety goes, that is another priority of ours and we chose to live in Hemlock Farms b/c they have Public safety here, it is gated and the fire dept. is close to us. Our taxes are a lot lower here than other communities that we looked into. It was impt. for us to have the kids around other kids, have activities available and we have our privacy. We are about 18 mi. from the NJ border. There is a park/ride close by also. The closest town for shopping is Honesdale or Milford which are quaint and charming towns. There is a super mkt. right outside of our comm. Scranton is 45 mi. if you want more activity. We did lots of research before coming here and it was worth it. Good luck.

I grew up very near mountain lake, and since you've vacationed there, you know that it is a very rural, peaceful, and beautiful area. My parents still have their home at Weitz Lake, but when it came to a retirement place, they chose NC..to each his own The quality of life is very good, provided you don't mind the 25 minute drive into Wilkes-Barre for your groceries, medical care, etc., and if you're coming from a warmer climate, be aware that the winters are long, cold and snowy, and those back-roads may take a while to see the plow trucks.
