Yes, both counties are desirable. In Monroe County, in the Brodheadsville area, is the Sons of Italy organization - that was created to bring together those of Italian & Italian American descent. They do great things for the community, as they are a non profit. I think the largest percentage of Italians might be in the Wind Gap area. Most of my husband's family is from that area, all Italian.

I live in Monroe County. It's rural and a nice place to live if you live in the right area. No, there are no Italian areas, lots of Italian last names. I think in Rosetto you may find a lot of Italian names but it isn't a Italian community. I have no experience w/ Wayne County sorry.

Wayne County is more rural than Monroe County. If you are looking for an Italian commuity you should try Old Forge.. It is just south of Scranton and there are lots of Italians in that area. The Italians settled in that area a long time ago when they came over from Italy. Old Forge also is known for its white pizza. It is not far from all the major retailers and the area is nice. It is about an hour or so from Hawley, which is in Wayne County.

Other large concentrations of Italian-Americans can be found in Pittston, which is midway between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, and in Dunmore, just to the northeast of Scranton. Both towns are replete with family-oriented Italian restaurants.

Oddly enough I do like the Old Forge Pizza Express in West Pittston. I haven't tried the one in the Vonderhey Plaza near Hamlin yet though.
