Hello:

My husband may be considering an offer in Williamsport that will require us moving to the area within the next few years. I've read through a couple of the Williamsport forums and have an idea of the area, but need additional information on everybody's favorite topic: Race.

Neither my husband and I have ever lived in an area with a small percentage of minorities, and if I judge by some of the responses in the other Williamsport's forum, it seems that we will be coming into an area that will assume that we are addicts or thieves, and wouldn't be welcomed. My goal isn't to be offensive to anyone, but I'm looking for an idea of what we should expect if we move to the area.

Again, my goal isn't to offend (or draw out any trolls.) Thanks.

Before, I begin, let me suggest you try this in the general PA forum, as Williamsport is not really in NE PA.

Anyway, I grew up in Montoursville, where our exposure to minorities was a foreign exchange student from Latin or South America! So to me, Williamsport has a high percentage of minorities. I did go to Kindergarten at the old Transieu (sp?) school in Williamsport near the old Bethune Douglas community center and I think there were maybe three or four black kids in my class. But keep in mind also that this was 1968, when the times, they were a-changing.

I think if you're looking for racial diversity you will find it in Williamsport, and I don't think people will stereotype you as being addicts or thieves unless you move into the areas where those types of people (of all races) congregate.

Good luck if you do make the move, and again, try asking your questions in the regular, main PA forum.

Thanks for your reply. This definitely make me feel a little better about our possible upcoming move!

I will follow your suggestion to post in the general PA area for more feedback. Thanks, again!
