I don't live in the area or post too often, but I wanted to tell you to hang in there. My father-in-law had a pancreas & kidney transplant over twelve years ago in PA while in his forties, also due to decades of Type 1 diabetes. Dialysis was really a difficult thing to go through, and it was hard waiting while on the transplant list. All of these years later, though, the new pancreas still functions perfectly and the days of insulin dependence are long gone. I pray that you are a match for the kidney and that he is also able to receive a pancreas. I know how hard it is to watch someone suffer through dialysis and how worries about the coming weeks and months can be overwhelming. I hope that within a few months things completely turn around for the better.

I was at work most of the day, so I'm sorry I'm chiming in here a bit late, but I just wanted to let you know, Ashley, that some of us were indeed concerned about your absence. It's a shame that your husband, at the tender age of 38, has to undergo these difficult medical procedures, but it seems as if promising breakthroughs are being made in the medical community on a daily basis. Bagldot speaks some very wise words when she reminds you to not only care for your husband but to care for yourself as well. Mark knows you're young and still full of vitality; he wouldn't want you tending to his every beckon and call day in and day out. You need to ensure that you set aside some "you time" as well---a day every now and then to just get out and hit up the outlets to buy yourself a nice outfit or to grab a nice lunch somewhere. My maternal grandmother's health has been ailing now for a few years, and my poor mother runs herself ragged between working full-time and trying to visit her daily at the assisted living facility in Kingston she is currently at. She's finally going away with my father during the second week of August to relax and unwind at a B & B in New Hope. My sister and I are going to fill in the role of semi-caregiver to the best of our ability during her absence.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. If there's anything we can do, please let us know!

Thank you all so much for the well wishes and prayers. I know that God works in mysterious ways but unfortunately I am not such a positive person because of all the bad luck in our lives. I am trying though. Mark is going for another surgery today to have the tubes put into his arm. I feel so bad for him because the catheter in his neck is not even healed and he has to get more. These take about 3 weeks to heal, that is if it even works. Then I guess he can have the one from his neck removed. We have a good amount of people that are willing to get tested but after we found out his blood type, it eliminated quite a few of them. He is the youngest of 12 but some of his brothers and sisters could not even try because of their own conditions. I am so grateful for all the ones that volunteered though. I really need to find some time to make them one of my home made thank you cards. It just seems like I don't have a minute to do anything. When I come home from work, it is time to prepare dinner, do dishes and some light cleaning, and then try to have him something ready for breakfast, snack, and lunch. Then it starts all over again the next day. Exhausting. Thank God for my mom. She helps so much with his appointments. Massanutten - It is so nice to hear a positive story. I have been hearing such horrible stories. Right now he is going through such a depression and that worries me. If your FIL has an e-mail address and would be willing to talk to Mark about his experiences, that would be wonderful. I just can't wait til the day when he gets back to his humorous self. Again, thank you all so much for the prayers and I will keep you updated. God bless.
Cheryl

Ashley, find out if your husband Mark can get on a couple of waiting lists in different states. Someone told us that things might move faster in one state compared to another. As you can see we are all here for you!

My hubby recently found out that he needs a kidney and pancreas transplant. It came about so fast and is already on dialysis. Tonight will be his second session. I am just heartbroken over this. Mark is only 38 years old and this was a result from being a diabetic. Then to top it off, he was let go of his job a few weeks ago because of his eye problems and we weren't sure if they would let him back on my insurance but luckily they did. They will be starting the testing for kidney donors in August and we are the same blood type so hopefully our tissue will match. Wish us luck. I will try to check in while at work because that is usually when I do, but when I have time, I am usually looking up info on dialysis and transplants. You may even recieve an e-mail soon because there is one that will be going around asking for donations and prayers. One of our friends was supposed to have it done already but hasn't. If anyone would like me to send it to them you can e-mail me off line. Please keep him in your prayers. We are wishing for a donor quickly because the longer one is on dialysis, the less the kidney lasts. Please say a special prayer for him tonight. God bless.
Cheryl
My prayers are with the both of you. You'll pull through this.

Thanks, I will tell him to find out the next time he goes to the specialist. I guess they won't put him on until they do all the test on him in August. They won't do them until the new insurance kicks in.
