But todays article on the Nay Aug wildlife center begs the question of their priorities.

"After the death of 15-year-old Reba, a park favorite since 2003, Mayor Chris Doherty approached Margaret Miller, the center’s director, and said it was up to her if she wanted to get another tiger. Ms. Miller said she was undecided but quickly convinced by the overwhelming number of cards and letters from kids and visitors."

Do they simply want to rehab animals, or do they want to be a zoo... and pick up animals to be an "attraction"?
I admit I am not a big fan of the operation as it sits, I simply think its an outdated facility with little room for the animals allready there..

But of course the mayor wants them to get a new a tiger. That way he'll be able to campaign on Nay Aug and the GWC this year JUST LIKE HE DID when he asked them to come in the first place.

But they do need to have animals that are attractions in order to get people to come and make donations to keep it running....

AHHH but if they are taking donations then why do they have a CASH REGISTER at the entrance? I have also been told that its a straight up admission fee now also, is that true?

They are going to rake in the dough with two new cats coming thats for sure. The article said that it has been in the works for 2 months now, thats about right after Reba died isn't it? 2 months..........., HMMMMm and I love how Doherty is printed in the article with extra point spacing so that Mayor Chris Doherty takes up a whole line in the story in a slightly larger type face as well......Nice one Chris. He'll ride the name contest and these new cubs right up to election day and yet nothing has improved at the center.

What about the cougars that are going to lose space in their pen so that they have room for these cubs?

This is a mistake and the fact that Ms. Miller went out LOOKING for new cats right after Reba's death shows that the GWC is backwards with its priorities and should not be involved with the city in anyway.

Shame on you for bringing in TWO cats when you don't have the funding or space to properly take care of these animals in a way that they require and deserve. Ms. Miller your first mistake was listening to Chris Doherty and your second mistake is listening to him again.

Can a non-profit organization legally do that?

As far as the cash register, they do have a small gift shop there that would necessitate it; Leadership Lackawanna provided display cases and I think also paid for a couple cases of t-shirts that they could then sell to generate revenue.
