I thought I'd start a fall foliage thread, as in my area...(Saylorsburg through Pocono Lake) the leaves are already turning to gorgeous colors..

My Mom, her best friend Lil (RIP) and I always went for leaf rides...a drive through the country to experience the change of season..then stop at a diner for good eats...Great memories.

Anyone else have some fall shots yet?

Up here in my sticks...I have noticed the first signs of fall every year around 8/15. The very tops of trees, and I have now gotten to know the first trees to change on my driving paths. The deer here are getting their winter coats, a darker coat, and some already have their full winter coat. I saw a wooley caterpillar with no 'ends' ...just the middle. Theory is...a large middle signifies a long winter....welll in that case...winter will never end this year!

Isn't it too early for them to start changing color?? I don't remember it happening this early....does that mean a cold/hard winter ahead??

I just ran out this morning to get my friend in NY her birthday present...a nice heavy hooded sweatshirt from the tourist shop!! Meanwhile it's 87 with a heat index of 101 here already thanks to Gustav dragging in all the Caribbean air...seemed strange buying a sweatshirt

No worries Jungle George...since fall is my favorite season, I watch closely for signs, and it is usually around 8/15 every year that I see the first of them. I can remember Labor Day Weekends having to make a small fire in the fireplace to keep my Southern relatives warm, so considering it's supposed to be 85 today...I'm loving it!

LOL!!! I'd probably be parked in front of the fireplace & you couldn't pry me away with a crowbar!!!

I saw the leaves just beginning to change myself on the Casey Highway, near Waymart, on my way to Honesdale last week. Does this mean winter is coming early this year? Donna, fall is my favorite season too. I love the crispness in the air and the beautiful foliage.

Autumn is my favorite season. The temps are just right, the breeze is just right, the feel of things is just...right!

Probably around 7-10 days ago I noticed the first leaves turning some brilliant colors. For the most part the leaves are still green, but there are definitely some spots here and there. The farmers almanac says it's supposed to be a long cold winter.
