Wilkes-Barre police dept. has been hiring alot of new officers. I think Hazleton is also hiring. I do not know how to go about applying though. I'd get intouch with the police dept's themselves and ask.

You can also try the usajobs website. There were just postings for officers at the Tobyhanna Army depot.

My friend is a cop in Carbondale and makes a whopping $10/hr!
I always see ads for state police and they start at decent wages. Good luck

He needs to be PA Act-120 certified. Even if he is from a neighboring state, with a similar certificate that is recognized by PA, he will still have to attend PA updates before he can work in any capacity as a police officer.

$10/hr. to risk your life daily? That's downright disgusting. I make more than that, and I don't even have a degree! Then again I think the biggest tragedy is how so few will complain about NFL stars netting seven-figure contracts to be obese and throw balls around, yet they'll complain about teachers making "outrageous" salaries of $40,000. Yawn.

I think its because NFL players aren't paid with tax dollars. And I don't think anyone thinks that teachers are overpaid, but that their demands for health insurance are ridiculous. Teachers have a sense of entitlement that they think they are entitled to benefits that almost no other working person gets.

I agree, even the CO's make peanuts. That is why most travel, however NYC has a residency law. I do not know how the State Police fair but there is no way that anyone can make a living on that salary. At corrections they told the guards that they can not moonlight with other jobs on the side.
