I read the thread on local alarm companies and the thread listed Vector in Hamlin, or First Alarm in Honesdale and to stay away from ADT. My neighbor has Vector and his alarm has gone off several times and there was no response.

Does anyone have any experience with these local alarm companies responding to their alarms ? I am sure that the State Police out of Honesdale don't respond to alarms since my house was broken into last winter and the trooper would only take the information from my contractor via phone. And never followed up.

I can install my own local alarm (exterior and interior) if I am not going to get any response when the alarm is triggered.

Any opinions out there ?

Our development used to use vector. they would 'patrol', but more often then not you'd see them sleeping on the side roads. We called on some hoodlums and loud parties a few times and they never did a thing. What else can be expected from minimum wage rent-a-cops? Unfortunately, for people like us, the honesdale state police or even blooming grove are still a 20 minute minimum away. Not real good in a true emergency!

I hear good things about Vector. Understand that they can dispatch, but if no one is available then it is just the nature of the coverage here.

I have ADT. They are good responders. When we first got it installed, it took me setting off the alarm 3 times to remember we had one (lol). They called each time within seconds to check up on it.

Thanks for the responses but maybe I should be a little clearer. I only live in this house during the spring and summer. The rest of the year I live overseas. But I keep the phone service and electricity on in my absence, but winterize the house by turning off the water and draining the water lines.

There are only two other houses on my street with only one full time resident. The house directly across the street from me is a vacation home and has Vector security alarm service. I am in a private community but it does not have full time security like the Hideout.

The reason I am concerned about alarm company response is because if I have a break-in someone needs to physically come to the house to survey the damage. It does me no good for them to call the house and have the thief give them the code

I certainly don't expect an alarm company to catch a thief but eventually the break-in damage must be repaired and the premises secured. And most alarm companies will make these arrangements in an owners absence.

Once again thank you all for your input.

most companies dont respond, they notify the police... thats usually quite a low priority.... most offer armed guard responce but you can pay a huge amount for that exrtra service.
