With that said, the American people and businesses have to learn a lesson from this! We have to!
The only way for the American people to learn from this is to suffer some consequences. If this gets ridden out due to government bailouts that assume debt for future generations, this generation will continue to make similar mistakes. We'll have yet another bubble on our hands, and the cycle will repeat itself. Eventually Uncle Sam won't be able to do this anymore. The talk now is about the financial system collapsing, but eventually the government could collapse under debt, and the social systems in place with it.

either way we are doomed for century's... one of the problems is that the general population seems to know more about their i-pods or cell phones then they do about their own personal finances and how to run them.

more research goes into picking a refrigerator than a financial plan for ones own future. why how to be financially healthy and how to plan ,invest and handle money is never taught in school as its so complex is a mystery to me. . we learned all kinds of useless crap in school but the real stuff that prepares one for life and not committing financial suicide is of no interest.

when i first met my wife she too was financially ignorant. a sweet talking mutual fund salesman at a bank no less sold her lots of dot com and tech funds, like a good little sheep what did she know she she followed. she got burned big time and realized that she had to be in the drivers seat and understand everything on her own.

today she is financially very savey and learned everything she needed to know to road map a financial future.

the point is most of america is very poorley schooled in not committing financial suicide and this is the end result for alot of people

sometimes ill watch susie ormanns show and although alot of the info she gives is just shot from the hip and not quite right for alot of people im amazed at the segment she does called can i afford it. viewers call up and lay their financial cards on the table and then tell her what they want to buy.

its amazing how people with no savings, tons of debt and without a thought will call up and ask if they can buy a 2500.00 pocket book, or 12,000 to take the family to the super bowel... you got to see this circus to believe what americans want to do with nooooo money

I saw the super bowl segment where the woman with no savings and a small income wanted to shell out $12,000 to take her little son to the Super Bowl. Perfect example of the insanity we are living in. Talk about getting your priorities straight.

I agree with the sentiment about school. I remember when I hit the ninth grade it seemed much of what I was learning was becoming repetitive and from that point I tried to get as much practical experience and knowledge whether taking different classes or even learning on my own. It's time for a reboot of school.

I sincerely hope you heeded my advice, and did not panic, and just let your money sit, or in fact you bought/invested a little bit more. Hope all is well

I didn't panic-- I shifted my investments to the Chinese stock market. It performs better and is more free-market than ours.
