Wow, after being used to the Palisades Mall, this was interesting. The Mall was clean but I did not like the indoor parking because I felt that it wasn't light enough in there. Then, having the sixth sense that I have, I noticed some characters that definitely were not shopping. It was very nice and they had some nice specialty stores. They also had a dog show sponsored by the Lackawana Humane Society. And for a Saturday it definitely wasn't packed. The news this morning says that the holiday season will be bad and it hasn't been that way in 20 years.

I try to stay away from the Steamtown Mall as much as I can. I haven't been down at that mall since March. If I must go to a mall, I go to the Viewmont Mall.

Steamtown has gone down hill in the 15 years since they built it. The stores are all OK...it's just the 'non-shoppers' that give it a bad name. It has become a hangout of the weirdest of people. This should be discouraged but it's not. When I was a teen, I hung out at the mall, but we had to be constantly moving. Mall security kept it that way. No loitering what so ever, especially in the food court. It just wasn't allowed. I have always been safe in the parking garage, but with my NY upbringing and street smarts...I am careful on where I park, look all around, lock doors and check the car when done shopping before getting in as well as my surroundings, and then lock the car immediately upon getting in. I usually feel very safe wherever I go and can leave all the nightmares and fear of living in NY behind, but this is one place where it does come back a little. I prefer to park right near Boscov's or Bonton's doors and go directly in.
Unless I need something from a particular store, I prefer Viewmont. I actually have come to detest malls lately.

Being from NJ, I always flee out of the state when Black Friday rolls around. right after Thanksgiving dinner, we leave and go to Mom's, wake up early and take her shopping at either Steamtown or Viewmont Mall. Oh, my what a difference there....... Black Friday at either of these malls looks like a regular weekend day at Paramus or Willowbrook. I love Black Friday shopping in Penna. I usually do pretty good at Boscov's when they have coupons, Plus, I can actually get parking spaces.

NY, Co and I Love Pa, I would definitely prefer the Viewmont Mall. It feels safer and there are many stores in that immediate area.

It's probably about a 45 to 50 mnute ride. We use the GPS, it is the best investment and we never get lost. 84 West to 81 - Scranton Expressway - and the rest is local streets.

I really can't say that I don't feel safe ... it's the fumes that get me ... whenever I go to the Steamtown Mall I start my shopping experience with a raging headache from that parking garage.
