I bet people don't realize just how close bears are living to people here in Wilkes Barre. Well, technically we're in Plains twsp. but it's considered WB. We're up on Jumper Rd. and we're seeing a family of bears coming out of the woods quite regularly. I have pics of them from August, but out of respect for their privacy and your bandwidth I'm not gonna post them here. Well, ok maybe I can attach one for ya

These pics are taken from my front porch btw

How cool! I live on a dirt road in a rural part of my town with several acres of woods behind my house. I am hoping to catch a glimpse of a bear one day. A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine who was staying over said they "thought they saw something big and black moving through the woods in the back". I asked "well, was it a bear or wasn't it?!". She had just woken up and didn't have her contacts in. All she could say was it was a "big, black mass". Hmmm.....sounds like a bear to me!

They sure are not hibernating here, I think they've been coming up here more often than in spring & summer, prolly cos they're hungry and there's a lot of stray cats & garbage to eat up here, compared to down the hill where their den is.

There is construction and deforestation going on down at the bottom of this hill, down on rt 315, which is obviously destroying this bear family's habitat.

What Mohegan Sun did is an absolute travesty! They cleared several acres of trees between I-81 and Highway 315 just so that they could "show off" their complex to commuters.

Do you live up in Mill Creek Acres or in the mobile home park?

I had one in my driveway a few weeks ago...maybe 50 ft from me. I jumped back in the car and started honking the horn.. he left....

You have to look right in the middle of the pic, to the left of the shed. I shot the pic real quick with my cell phone.

Hope that worked. Wasn't sure how to actually post the photo.

In the park, yes. And yes, they are still clearing the woods down on rt 315, which is where the bears are living, along the creek, apparently. There's some mining tunnels and caves around here.

The day the bears came out of the woods in Aug. they walked up the street through the park, visiting various neighbors yards, then headed over to Mill Creek and walked through backyards there.

I kinda wish they'd move the bear family further up Bald Mountain, into the reserve lands, but I suspect all that will happen eventually is someone will shoot them.
