My mom, at age 72, after an incredibly courageous 2-year battle with ovarian cancer, died early this morning, my sisters by her side.

I am going to miss her dearly...but my mom and dad are together again after being apart for 7 years. I'm taking some comfort in that.

I've been awake since I got the call at 2:15 am - waiting for my kids to get up so my husband and I can tell them. God, I'm so sad...

But I wanted you all to know, since I have been talking about her recently. And I thank all of you for your words of wisdom and support that you have given.

Cathy

I'm sorry for your loss. Think about your parents being together in Heaven for Christmas this year and smiling down at you.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Cathy. My family and I are also preparing for what's going to be a mountain of tears at my grandmother's viewing and funeral as well tomorrow and Tuesday. On top of all of this my co-worker at Lowe's is in a coma after falling off of his roof and hitting his head on a concrete sidewalk during Friday's storm, and the prognosis isn't good. It just seems like when it rains, it pours.

Time will heal all wounds. You'll be devastated now and for some time to come, but eventually things will progressively get better and better with each passing day. My grandmother's loss isn't as brutal as I thought it would be because I braced myself for the very worst when I heard she had cancer and couldn't receive chemotherapy. Naturally I wish she, your mother, my co-worker, etc. could have all held on through Christmas, but I suppose God figured since 2008 has already been an awful year for so many of us why not make it worse, right?

I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers, Cathy. You'd be best off staying indoors today though and not venturing out anywhere to grieve with loved ones; the roads are atrocious again.
