Well, the original plan was to meet my hubby's sister and husband and Ruths Chris for dinner, but my brother and his wife are coming up from NC to get some furniture from my mom's house. So Saturday we're moving furniture, but that night they will join me, my hubby and his sister and husband for dinner at Macaluso's at the Lantern, a great restaurant in Nesquehoning.

Hey, it doesn't matter what you do that day, as long as the people you love and care about are with you!

Why wait 'til Feb. 14th to show your love for your partner??!!
I have quite a fine relationship, and we're not going out just because we feel "guilted" I agree the commercialization of V day is out of hand, but what's wrong with recognizing your love for one another on that day? It doesn't mean people that go out and celebrate the day are at each others throats every other day of the year.

Valentines Day has never been a big thing between my husband and I...all the things that wise Jg said. It is my Dad's Birthday, the first without him....so just getting through the day with a smile here and there would be all I'd ask for.
And of course getting something special for the 2 princesses in our life! To heck with the King and Queen! (That's me...)

Ooooooo!!! Enya's on the defensive!!!

LOL!! Ain't nothing wrong with celebrating your love on that day!! I'm saying why not every day???

The commercialization is sickening!! I think it's ridiculous what's on TV..."show your love...buy her a Lexus"...."tell her that you care with a pair of 2-carat stud earrings"....

And GOD FORBID the husband forgets!!!!

LOL I was feeling defensive I read your post and responded with mine after an hour long fight with my insurance company on the phone that had my blood boiling and actually gave me chest pains , so it hit a nerve, and I apologize for the snippy tone (and duplicate post, coartist, lol). I'm on my way to Mohegan now with the husband for some Ben & Jerry's so I will be feeling better shortly

I think it's the commercialization of every holiday that has made me stop looking forward to most of them. I hate the 'buy this so they know you love them' crap. That was why I suggested we all just go out to lunch on Valentines. Otherwise my Momma - who still thinks were 10 - will buy my brother and I candy hearts and and tons of stuff we don't really need or want (and yes, I'm already trying to think of something for Easter so we don't get full Easter baskets too!). This way we spend time together over a leisurely lunch which we can't do often because of our schedules and that is worth more to me than a Lexus or diamond earrings. I think there's fewer and fewer of the people like this left in this world though. I hope this economic crisis wakes up some people to the little things in life that make it worth living. Happiness cannot be bought or sold.

Exactly!!! (okay Paul...... !!)

I think the commercialization is what's taken away the "heart" & "soul" of every Holiday....there's no celebration of the REASON BEHIND the holidays anymore...just what can be gained from them.
