The woman, who was punched in the face and lost several teeth, was taken to Community Medical Center on Friday afternoon after an unidentified man assaulted her and demanded the keys to her Subaru Tribeca inside the Boscov’s parking lot at the Mall at Steamtown at about 1:07 p.m.
Here is the rest of it.....Attempted Carjacking (http://scrantontimes.com/articles/2009/02/07/news/sc_times_trib.20090207.a.pg3.tt07a3briefs_s1.22799 95_loc.txt - broken link)

I like how the paper buried this, after all its an election year.

Nice right in the middle of the day. It definitely looks like Doherty should without question being cutting back on public safety.

This is just wonderful. I was actually at the mall at that time meeting a friend. I was on the lower level by Boscov's when you first enter the parking garage. I was wondering why I saw 3 police cars go up into the top level. This is not a good situation for Scranton and it's public safety. The Doherty machine will find some excuse and print some more propaganda about how great Scranton is.

Well, sounds like it wasn't actually a carjacking. But that's still some crazy stuff. 1pm?!

Awwwww...comeon...Scranton is so safe we don't need to invest in police...we need a dog park more!

The attacker was probably an New Yorker to boot!

Yeah, we New Yorkers love stealing cars almost as much as smoking our crack..

Just learned that Ms. Blip and the kids parked under Boscov's right around that time. Crazy

The city is not safe, period. The only reason they didn't get the car was because she was smart enough and still aware enough to hit her panic button even after she was hit.

Reducing our police forces...Thats the answer. Doherty says that this new decision will save the city $3,000,000 well what about the $16,000,000 in new hires and raises for the admin.......Instead of laying people off (can't do that its an election and year and the jobs are favors) he is going to cut back our public safety...

He stated that we can NOW put the recovery plan in place, was the recovery plan just about beating down the unions? You bet your a$$ it was otherwise they could of put it into action years ago. There is no recovery plan just away to break the unions and raise taxes and inflate budgets while blaming our police and fire depts for the budget shortfalls.

You guys feel restored? I know my pride has been restored.

I'm not surprised it happened. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened sooner. This is why I always watch what's going on around me. You can NEVER be too careful anywhere....even small towns. They're not immune either.

It's right next to the police station no less!

A man was roughed up and mugged at an ATM in the "Garden Village" of West Pittston. Does that make West Pittston a "hot bed" for violent crime? Crime can happen ANYWHERE, Dan. I attended an upper-middle-class suburban high school and was robbed during gym class one day in a string of drug-related pick-pockets. As we head nearer to a national depression, I expect people to only become even MORE desperate.
