I just don't think it is enough of a "situation" to abandon plays to move to The Back Mountain or Mountain Top. Thousands of people in our region make this commute everyday, either from the Scranton area down to the W-B area, or from the W-B area to the Scranton area. Remember they are coming from New Jersey. Our traffic is nothing compared to what they are used to.

Ahhh...the "scenic route." Naw. Driving from Dallas to Exit 3 and then taking River Road/Main Street northwards to Scranton would take forever!

I suppose you're right. I've just been stuck in far too many back-ups on I-81 for "emergency bridge repairs" for my own good. LOL!

Yes it is annoying. Especially when you didn't know about it before hand, and you are in a hurry to get somewhere.

Well given what happened in Minneapolis I suppose stomaching a traffic jam so that PennDOT can fix a bridge is better than what would happen if they just "let it go."

[SIZE=3]I am trying to talk my husband into the Dallas (we can get larger lots with trees) area and he is trying to talk me into the Waverly area. We are in a tiff with the drive from Dallas to Scranton. How long do you really think his commute would be each day? This is what my husband says, "it is 20 minutes more each way. That is 40 minutes a day. I would lose 7.2 Days a year in traffic that I would not lose in Waverly. The traffic will also only increase over time with development. I could lose as much as an hour a day or more. Over the course of the 30 year career I would lose 216 days of my life in traffic I would have to sit in. This also doesn’t take into account snow and accidents. I would lose 2% of my life so I can have trees. It isn’t worth it. “Can I win this argument?

I took a drive out to Goodleigh Manor with a friend a couple of weeks ago just out of curiosity (we had to kill some time while waiting to pick up her mother from her dentist appointment in Dallas). The subdivision is very massive and had very large lot sizes. There were only a few homes built and/or under construction, and the views, for the most part, were gorgeous. Landview Properties gets a "gold star" from me because even though I usually hate residential sprawl they TASTEFULLY develop their communities to include plenty of open space, large lot sizes, community areas, and retain as many trees as possible. The only real down side I could see would be the fact that the terrain is not only at a high elevation, but it is also quite hilly, so during snow storms it could be a white-knuckle drive out of the subdivision and around those windy hilly streets until the plows come through.

Is he a hockey fan? Living in the Back Mountain (Dallas Area) would position you closer to where the Penguins play in Wilkes-Barre. Is the quality-of-life in the Back Mountain THAT much more preferable to the quality-of-life in the Abingtons to justify the longer commute? In my humble opinion not really. I don't see many advantages to Dallas over Clarks Summit. Both are similar demographically and in terms of what they offer to families. I would NOT recommend Mountain Top because even though the Crestwood School District is generally well-regarded there's NOTHING to do in Mountain Top---just some gas stations, fast-food, drug stores, etc. At least in both Dallas and Clarks Summit there's stuff to do without always relying upon Wilkes-Barre or Scranton, respectively.
