PennDOT is just under-staffed in key areas and bloated in others. I routinely see a bunch of guys just standing around looking stupid while leaning on shovels in highway work zones, but when winter rolls around the roads are horrendous and a plow truck is often never in sight!

My point on the drive from Dallas to Scranton... is its about 20 miles away from each other....

if your going to move into another state.. you might as well move in the city where your job is going to be located.

I lived in Elizabeth NJ ... roughly 20 miles from my job in morristown...(1 1/2 commute :'( ..) In NePa its only a 30 minute ride..but...i Knew my job was in wilkes barre and i live 2 miles from the office.. best thing in the world.. i get to go HOME for my lunch break as opposed to eating mcdonalds or trying to wake up early to make it...

maybe im going off point.. if you have the opportunity to move near your job, do it!....

Are you planning on working? most of the jobs are either in Wilkes barre or Scranton.. you dont want to get caught having to drive 1/2 hour if you dont have to either.

It really all just depends upon what area you'd feel most comfortable with. It's only a two-hour ride (if that) to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area from most parts of NJ, so one of these weekends come on up and explore for yourselves. It would be best probably for you to stay from Saturday night into Sunday at a hotel near to I-81, possibly even the Quality Inns here in Pittston, so that you could be convenient to all areas you are interested in. While at the hotel that night watch the local 11 PM news to get a good sense of what to expect in terms of crime/incidents, and also pick up copies of each of the local papers, a copy of Happenings Magazine (community events, arts/culture, upscale businesses, reader profiles, etc.), and try to "re-create" the commute from Dallas to Scranton, as well as from Clarks Summit/Waverly to Scranton to get a good feel for each. You may wish to contact a few local public school districts to ask for a tour of their facilities while you're in.

Another option with (2) viable routes is between Mountaintop & White Haven......437 to 81 & Scranton (25 minutes) or jump on the Turnpike at the Pocono exchange (20) minutes from the exit to Scranton. Puts you in the Crestwood School district. There are some lots available if you look, but not public water or sewer. Ditto the comments from Scran Barre per the local academics, he's dead on. Winter driveing is bad about 1/2 dozen times a year, they really do keep the roads pretty decent. Traffic here on a bad day equates to average traffic in suburban NJ.
