I just recently saw some breaking news about a hostage standoff and a killing spree at a civic center just over the PA border in our Empire State neighbor of Binghamton. According to ABC news the number shot is in the "double digits," and there are indeed fatalities. The FBI is currently sending hostage negotiators to the scene in hopes of minimizing any further lives lost. Given that Binghamton (Bingo as the locals call it) is just over the border from NEPA we should let them know that they are in our thoughts and prayers!

UGH! The media is stuttering as they try to correct themselves from saying "Bimmington!" I thought that was just a valley term?

The death toll is now up to a dozen with dozens more still held hostage.

Ugh, crazy stuff. I don't pray, but I hope for the best. And I just hope it wasn't some anti-immigrant redneck. (CNN is calling it an "immigrant center".)

No. The assailant (who recently turned the gun on himself) was an Asian in his 20s. It is likely nobody may ever learn his motives. Authorities enlisted the aid of a nearby college professor who spoke Viatnamese to help with translation.

Actually a report I read said he was 42. The victims and their families are in my prayers.

So tragic and senseless; and, probably, we'll never know the shooter's reasons why it came down to doing this? Makes this all the more sad.

I live about 10 miles from Binghamton. This is, of course, a truly horrible situation. The victims and the victims' families are in my thoughts. It was very shocking earlier today to hear about this, turn on CNN, and see this happening in a setting which is so familiar. It's all very, very sad and troubling.
