Does anyone know approximately how far around the paved trail is at Lake Scranton? I don't have a pedometer, but I'm just assuming it's about 3.5 miles. I ran the entire loop today in just under 25 minutes, so assuming that estimate of mine is accurate, then that means my usual running pace is around 8 miles per hour. Marathons are 26.2 miles, and you need to try to finish in under three hours in order to qualify for the Boston Marathon if I'm not mistaken. In three hours I'd only be doing 24 of those 26.2 miles at this pace, so obviously I have to pick up my pace a bit to just under 9 miles per hour. I may decide to run the Steamtown Marathon this year after all if I can finish it in a respectable time of just over three hours.

Qualifying for Boston for men under 35 is 3:10:59. Given that extra ten minutes, you sound like you're pretty close to that and you won't have to kill yourself training to picking up your pace that much.

3.5 miles sounds right. There used to be a marker painted right at the beginning of the trail (right on the ground) stating how many miles around the lake, but it's been a long time since I've been there, unfortunately.

Default IIRC it is 3.57 miles

I didn't measure it but that is what I think was marked a few years ago . It is a very nice place to run leisurely or train more seriously.

Thanks for that welcome bit of good news, CHS89! I think I can easily improve my pace just a bit if I alter my diet. Right now I have the typical "college dude" philosophy that I'm more or less invincible and can consume whatever I please, figuring I'll just "burn it off later." It has not been uncommon for me to eat three Krispy Kremes and then go running for five miles or to go running for my lengthy twelve-mile route from Wyoming to Wilkes-Barre and back and then to stop for ice cream at Carter's in Exeter. This morning was different for me though. I chopped up two large strawberries and a banana and had a bowl of frosted shredded mini wheat cereal with 1% milk, drinking a bottle of citrus Vitamin Water during my run. Wow! I'm so inspired now! A 2010 position in the Boston Marathon isn't far out of my grasp!

Thought I would share these, since we're on the topic of Lake Scranton.

Beautiful photos, Luna! Assuming that "gate house" is now uncovered and at the point of the lake across from the intersection with Lake Scranton Road & Route 307, then my sister and brother-in-law had their wedding photos taken there back in Fall 2007 (or was it 2006?) In any event the atmosphere there was gorgeous at the time---orange and red trees adorning a pristine lake. I always enjoy my runs up there.

What's the general crowd like around Lake Scranton? I like to rollerblade with my dog, but I don't really like going along main streets too much because of the start up, slow down factor.

If it's open enough that I can skate freely with my dog, that'd be great.
