Everyone, sit down. I agree with John & GP! Who thought this day would ever come? LOL

Seriously, not all towns and/or cities should aspire to be a NYC or Philly. It's like saying all people should aspire to be President or something.

Here's another example of Scranton's backwards idea of downtown development....turning yet another corner downtown lot into a parking lot! If this downtown was on the upswing and being revitalized and "moving forward," you wouldn't see corner properties becoming nothing but a sea of blacktop. Northeastern Eye buys former Scranton Ford site for $1.4M - The Times-Tribune

Personally I like the hole in the ground with the trees that have reached above the street level where the former Markowitz building stood on the corner of Wyoming and Linden... Not to mention the hole where the pub charles was.

Nothing like adding that bombed out feel to a downtown to stimulate growth...

Northeast Eye has been wanting a parking lot for years, the Maywhore was going to build a new city lot over there if you remember, that is until the parking authority and the rest of the city went broke.....

This will be a private lot for their business so they don't have to have patients and staff feeding meters....

I touched up the image to reflect the success of the Hilton...LOL

Nothing said bombed out more than the old Hotel Casey. But funny, I don't hear anyone mention the success of the Scranton Hilton.

They are not in the same spot, where the Casey once stood is a garage and the Hilton replaced Pearl Vision and Preno's.

The Casey stood empty, it wasn't a hole in the ground.

Instead of restoring another LANDMARK hotel in all its grandeur, lets build a new one and default on the financing, sounds like a great idea.

I wouldn't exactly call the Hilton a success, they defaulted on their loans and have struggled ever since. There actually has to be traffic in a city for hotels to be a success. I'll wager that it hasn't been the success that you think it is.

By the way how is a hotel a success for a city? When was the last time you actually walked around the downtown on a weekend afternoon?

The Hilton was Jimmy Connors' project, not Doherty's....but Connors was pushing for an actual conference center, but this Hilton is pretty much just a regular hotel with a few conference rooms like any hotel. Connors actually wanted to put the arena downtown before Bob Casey went and gave the money to Luzerne County. The arena downtown really would have breathed some life into Scranton.

But we know how Doherty likes to take credit for projects he had nothing to do with. Funny, but most of the successful developments in Scranton had nothing to do with Doherty.

Semantics, they are in the same spot. The Casey was falling down with broken windows , rusted metal , etc. Such a nice welcome to the city.

Okay , I will wager with you that it is a success. Now lets get them to open their financial records.

By the way, the Apple Store idea is gaining steam...I have seen it on two boards now =)

Now that you have mentioned Doherty...
We [Scranton] had a first position on the paper of the Hilton, our money was safe in case of default. When they were struggling they refinanced and Doherty took a 2nd position, now in case of default we get some televisions and beds... he gave up rights to the 1st.. I believe the hit we [Scranton] took on that one was 6 million dollars.. What a great CEO Doherty is!!! Enron could have used him!!
Whats 6 million to a distressed city??
