Sorry it is raining on the opening day of the festival; wish you could send the rain down here,we are in a severe drought!

This blows! I don't know if I'll have time now to scope it out the next three days! I'll have to aim for a narrow window tomorrow immediately subsequent to my commencement rehearsal down on campus.

I was down there today from around 11:30 AM-12:30 PM, and let me tell you it was VERY congested on the square today. While it was encouraging to see so many people coming out to support the downtown in its fragile impending renaissance the density of people coupled with the warm day left me soaked in sweat! I waited in line for about 20 minutes for a delicious buffalo chicken & mozzarella stuffed pizza from Nikko's, and then I waited for another 20 minutes for a vanilla peanut butter ice cream cone from Hillside Farms Dairy. Normally I don't mind the wait, but my suggestion for next year would be to implement a proper "line" system in a zig-zag pattern for venues that are anticipated to be very busy, including those two vendors I scoped out, similar to what you see at Cinemark on the eve of a major film release. I tried leaving just enough of a gap in front of me while I was in line to permit women with strollers and people in wheelchairs to pass through on the sidewalk, but I had to keep on shooing people away who then tried to "cut" in line, so I felt like in a Catch-22 of sorts---do I look like a jerk for not letting little old ladies in jazzies go by, or do I risk losing my slot in line and have to argue to get it back?

On the plus side though nearly everyone was in a very pleasant and cordial mood. While waiting in line at Hillside Farms I made idle banter with a woman who had a baby in a stroller as she did a "peek-a-boo" sort of game with him through a zip-up "sunroof" of sorts in the top of the stroller. I also let three women behind us in line cut in front of us because I overheard them worrying that they were going to be late for work. They gratefully got their ice creams and then hustled on back towards the Stegmaier Building. There was some sort of jazz band playing around noon at the nearby band shell, and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves.

As I said my only complaint was the lack of some sort of "queue" system with the zig-zagged ropes so that the in-fighting in long lines wouldn't have occurred. It's nice to see Downtown Wilkes-Barre truly bouncing back, and when I made the comment that the city should host MORE fun annual events like this on the square, nearby strangers agreed, saying they, too, would come to the city more often.
