As Wilkes-Barre's Riverfront Project gets set for it's grand opening next month, what kinds of regional festivals would you like to see take place at our region's newest venue? What events would draw the most tourist? What kinds of festivals are lacking in NEPA right now? I would like to see a regional Regatta competition, like they have on the Schulykill River in Philly. I think a bass fishing competition would do very well and attract alot of fisherman from around the northeast. I'd like to see a riverfront Bar-B-que cookoff competition. I'd like to see Wilkes-Barre's Jazz Festival restarted (Wilkes-Barre had the first Jazz Festival in America if I'm not mistaken) A "jazz on the River" event would be cool. Maybe an arts and craft's fair in the fall. these are some of my thoughts. What are some of your's?

A small amphitheatre is included in the project??How about weekly or monthly small concerts, plays, even movies....Wilkes-Barre has 2 great colleges for talent to tap into....just some thoughts...or a weekly public forum like in London I believe????

I thought this thread would get more traction. How about not only Wilkes-barre, but for any town in NEPA. What types of events or festivals do you think we lack in NEPA? What would you like to see as far as new annual events or festivals?

I'd like to see a larger PrideFest just to see Bishop Martino FINALLY go off the deep end in a fit of rage!

Arts festivals, I'd love if there was a city greenhouse like there was a hundred years ago....hmmmm.....what else?

I'm picturing a mini version of the harbor in Baltimore. I am hoping that the new riverfront will lure more business to downtown Wilkes Barre. I like the regatta idea.

I love Inner Harbor in Baltimore and the aquarium, but lets face it, this is Wilkes-Barre. I just hope the boneheads in the county government have some sort of a plan, or an events committee set up for when this opens. It would be typical of Luzerne County not to have the forsight to start planning regional events, and to just build the damn thing without having any further plans for actually using it! Just think of what a massive green area/parks type system we will have in Wilkes-Barre once this is complete! You can tie Kirby park, Nesbitt Park, The Riverfront Project, and Public Square all together. They are all within walking distance from one another. Imagine a "music festival" where one band can be playing on "The Square", one can be playing at Martz Pavillion at Kirby Park, one can be playing at The Riverfront Amphitheater, one can be playing at Nesbitt Park, and you'd be able to walk to whichever one, then walk over and check out another band ect. We can use all these amenities at one time for large scale festivals like that. How about an X-Games competion for the kids, skateboarders, BMX, Freestyle all using The Square, Kirby Park, the riverfront for different events, but all wrapped into one three day festival. If done right, this can be a real regional asset that can attract thousands of tourist and visitors, if done wrong it will share the same fate as the old Coal st Park. Broken down, Graffitee all over, weeds all over ect. I pray that they have a master plan for all this, but I'm not holding my breath.

Bishop Martino wouldn't say a thing, unless the event was at a Catholic college, church, school, etc.

When I say a mini version - I mean the fact that it's a waterfront with a bustling downtown area. I know that we won't have anything near Inner Harbor but I think we can have a great tourist area.

There has been no word from the Mayor or anything about this kind of thing W-B proud?
