I wouldn't rule out Scranton so quickly. Scranton, for all its faults, still has plenty of nice areas and you're more likely to get more for your buck in Scranton than in the other towns. If you like a house, go there on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and again at night. Talk to the neighbors. That should give you a feel of what that area is like.

I agree with Trucker! You can absolutely get more for your money in Scranton! There is a lot of negative talk but listen to the positive people1
Not all of South Side is bad either - and you can really get a nice BIG house there in your price range!
I saw a 6 bedroom for 129! Nice property, stained glass, swirled ceilings and a garage.
Nice kitchen too.

How are the job prospects in Scraton. The reason is that PA is defiantely on our lists of places to move to when I graduate with a degree in accounting and I would be job hunting. Now I know its not for 3 years, but its still on the cards as we have a home in wle already. I love the old victorians in Scranton etc. wondering about the high schools also.

thanks
d

Dorothy I know that the jobs are great in health care and higher ed, so that has my family covered!
As for the High Schools both compare favorably to surrounding suburban schools. By this I do not mean they are better but certainly competitive.
If I move to Scranton City that is where my kids are going and education is VERY high on my list of priorities!
In fact they are going to public school where ever in NEPA we live.

I feel in love with the old Victorian Houses on North Washington Street in Scranton. I have to say I admire the fact that they are all different and have a lot of charm. The home owners keep their properties, IMO, in pristine condition.

We are the same ; if we move to nepa, public school is our only option. Unfortuantely here on Long Island, its not an option for now.

Thanks
