I need a recommendation for a lawyer, in the 3 H* area, who can handle a Last Will and Testament for me. Single, no dependents, nothing complicated. In the past I always used the type that you can find in a good office supply store and had it notarized at the bank

Since I have had no experience in using a lawyer how much should I expect to pay ?

And YES, I did try the search function here and we all know how that works

Thanks in advance

*Hawley, Honesdale, Hamlin

Last I knew a lawyer would cost you about $150.00 for will along with aboth a revocable power of attorney and durable healthcare power of attorney. You can DM me for the names of attorneys in the Scranton area.

You may want to check suzeorman.com, she has a kit that is less expensive, has been vetted by attorneys and also includes how to establish a living trust and the trust documents.

dont attempt it on your own, although it looks real simple, nothing is a problem until its a problem. i can tell you some real horror stories about omited words and all kinds of issues that cropped up with us.....

every state has little things that need to be done ,not legaly but as good practice that you will not know about from just a form to fill out

Exactly why I am here mathjak107 my only heir was screwed out of all money left to him by a friend who did it on the cheap, which ran afoul of New Jersey probate law. PA does not require signatures to be witnessed but I'm not going to be around to prove it and I have a wicked step sister who could / would make trouble

there are so many issues that are unkown by layman when you do these things. we had a closing stopped on a refinancing because on an inheirited house the will was missing one word. it read and to my child beth i leave my house and possessions. what word was missing? the word ONLY as in only child beth... the title company stopped the closing, i had to pay all attorneys, lost my interest rate and rescheduled after documents were signed by relatives that she was the only child.

i have even more stories where things went wrong because the will from relatives was not up to parr because a general practioner did it and not an expert in that area.

i dont want to go off topic or i would tell you some of the pitfalls and disaters we hit when something is contested and not made bullet-proof
